Things seem to be wrapping up nicely.
I told him his carrier would probably total the car. I was honest and said it was probably worth about $3k before the accident. So I will have some cash, and I will still have the Subie. Options:
1. Sell it - Oppo discount is available. Manual, non turbo, AWD Subie wagon for cheap with lots o’ fresh engine work has to be worth something around here.
2. Keep it. I can make the kid find junkyard parts, put a new nose and hood on it, and off we go.
3. Keep it and build a rally car, likely poorly. Just a thought, but one that persists

#3 is the kind of idea we all come to Oppo for.

I mean, if the mechanical bits are all still fine...

My natural inclination is to encourage all bad project ideas, but Thunderbird. Which is to say my preferred bad project is already on deck. If you don’t mind having two...

Start with the second option and move towards the third.

I’m a boring sort, so I’d probably go with #2. I think the junkyard parts route should be pretty cheap, and could be an interesting mechanical diversion.

My son thinks a friend of his is good friends with your son, so we should all get along.
I understand what they’re meaning to say, but either way, people actually say this? What in the world does one thing have to do with the other, especially when it’s not this persons son who is friends with your son directly?

#2, definitely. It’s a good car that you’ve put some money into getting right for him. #3 simply diverts money and en e rg y away from that T-Bird. That baby deserves to fly again!

If you go with option 1 I call dibs.
But you should definitely rally it.

So random question but what’s the current story on the Subie? I have a soft spot for these GD Imprezas (I grew up with an 03 Wagon) and they keep coming up in my conversations with my Dad about what to do next with regards to cars. Given that every example up here is riddled with the typical Subaru cancer for some reason I don’t think it would be a bad idea to make a cross country road trip out of it if it happens to still be around and you want it gone come summer. The body damage would make it a perfect candidate for a general purpose rallycross/hillclimb/autocross/Ice Race /track day/stage rally hoon wagon.
I’m still just throwing ideas around so there’s no real priority to this but if it’s still around come May or June and you want it gone feel free to let me know.
