“Wanna sell that thing?”
“No, not really.”
“Oh come on. How much?”
“It’s really not for sale.”
“Everything has a price. Gimme a price.”
“$8,000"
“Gimme a better price and I’ll buy it.”
“...”
An actual conversation I had with a rando at the Fred Meyer parking lot this morning. Never had someone try to buy my not for sale vehicle and then express dislike for my asking price before. Real l ife is now Craigslist.

“How dare you not give me this thing on my terms! It doesn’t matter that you still want to keep it, I WANT IT! I WANT IT NOW AND I WANT IT AT A PRICE THAT I LIKE!!!!”
There’s some cork soaker on my local CL who was asking a coupe grand for a tacoma with a seized engine and offered to trade for a running tacoma of the same year or newer . I have no words....

I get that with my truck sometimes. Go away and leave me and my truck alone!

I guess if you did that to everyone you met, you would eventually hit the jackpot with someone who doesn’t know what their car is worth?

I tried years ago on a kid with a nice YJ. 4.0/5-speed. Just thought it was a thirsty old Jeep and he wanted a new car in a couple months. I asked what he’d still the Jeep for- “I dunno... $1,200?” I told him to find me when he was ready to sell, but he never came back. :(

There are so many of these... “1995 Ninja 250, not running just needs carbs cleaned. Only interested in trades for diesel trucks.”

I know I tried to sell it to you before, but I’ve since decided I like it too much to sell it . We’ve also been kicking around the idea of another travel trailer in the future, so no sense selling the tow vehicle.

That works for me. I can’t afford it right now anyways. Maybe by th e time you actually do sell it, I’ll be able to actually buy it :)

The only thing I don’t like about it is the gas mileage! It was retired from daily driver duties shortly after we bought a new house even further from work, so that’s not a big concern any more. It’s a 2001 with a 6.0, 4L80, G80/GT5, 150k-ish miles, and it’s 4x4. I added the 265 BFG A/Ts, cranked the torsion bars to level, slapped on the tow mirrors, and found a set of nice ‘05 Denali seats and ‘03+ center console. The biggest pain was the double-DIN conversion, but it was totally worth it. It currently needs wheel bearings, a rear main seal and a steering box rebuild, but I’ll eventually get to it. I usually go weeks without driving it, but every time I do I fall in love with it all over again. The big cushy chairs, the lack of road noise, the driving position, the heft of it all, the torque of the LQ4 with the 4.10 gears. It’s just such a nice truck.

$8k is a pretty good price.

I have a 1999 k2500 Suburban with the 7.4L . I absolutely love the thing. The wife and kids love it for any travel we do . It gets 11 to 12 mpg cruising and maybe 8 when towing the travel trailer, but what would I ever replace it with that wouldn’t cost more than the fuel?
The only thing I would trade it for is maybe a GMT800 with the 8.1L, but they are rare as hen’s teeth in good condition.
And yes, I’ve had that same parking lot conversation. I took it as a compliment though. Your s looks sweet and well kept. Probably what drew the eye.

It looks well-kept in this picture from right after I detailed it a couple months ago. I t looks disgusting currently!
I bought an ‘09 VW GLI a few months ago as a commuter because the 60 mile/day commute was racking up miles on the Burb and sucking down lots of gas. My intention was to sell it, but it’s just so handy to keep around. And like you said, what would replace it if we choose to buy another travel trailer in the future? Most of these trucks have been driven into the ground and have 200k+ miles by now, and I know mine is well-kept and rust free. Yeah, it gets 12.4-14 unladen and 8-10 while towing, but a diesel crew cab in similar condition would cost $20,000 and probably still get 12-15 mpg while piling up massive maintenance and repair bills. If the engine craps out on mine? $500 for a junkyard LQ4. Transmission? $400 for a junkyard 4L80. Plus I’ve got DV plates, so no registration fees and it costs about $18/month to insure. When you consider all that, the fuel is pretty cheap!
