I had a student come in today to see her test. She only got two wrong, and she argued that since I misspelled a word on the stem of a question, she should get credit for it because she thought I was trying to trick her.
I told her that was the most ridiculous thing I’d ever heard.
What I wanted to do was tell her to GTFO of my office, because I had a tip from another student on this last test that she and her friend were passing notes during the test. I didn’t catch them, or it would have been a big fat zero. You can bet I’ll have my eye on them from now on.
I hate cheaters even more than I hate point hounds.

I did have a student get weirdly chummy with me once, asking me personal questions and stuff. It seemed weird, and I told a colleague and put it in an email , plus I arranged to never be alone with her.
When she got kicked out for underperforming, she leveled a harassment accusation against me, asserting that I caused her stress that made her fail. I had documentation, including emails, that made it a slam dunk for me.
You always have to be careful.

The professor I worked for refused to close his office door any time a woman - whether a student or colleague - was in there. He had a harassment suit brought against him once. The worst they could pin on him was him telling her that she was wearing a very nice dress while they passed in the hallway.

Yup... and your story along with other stories make me roll my eyes when the Jezzie/Feminist crowd claim that (self-proclaimed) female “victims” rarely ever lie about harassment/abuse.
But personally,
I can name more
lying female accusers than I can name lottery winners.

The last straw for my academic career happened when I caught a student cheating. I was testing them on their AutoCAD skills. I told them they could not use any of their previous work from their local hard drive or an external drive. I made them all move to a different computer so they wouldn’t be tempted to pull files from their local drive.
The management software in the lab allowed me to watch their screens, so I got screen grabs of one student as he connected a network drive and pulled down his previous work. I then reported it to the dean.
Two weeks later, the academic review committee decided that he wasn’t expressly forbidden from getting files off a network drive, so what he did was permissible. A friend of mine was on the committee, so I found out what really happened. The kid threatened to sue. Instead of dealing with the lawsuit, the committee caved and forced me to give him a passing grade.
That happened during the spring semester. I left the school in July.

Are these college students? What class?
I’d pepper her with a question or two to determine her depth of knowledge about what she missed and if I’d caught her flatfooted, ask whether she’d like me to remove a couple more points. Or, for that matter, about a question she’d gotten correct. Or offer to see if there was anything she’d misspelled or left out that warranted a closer look. Any of those things.
Sometimes, a student will come and say, “Johnny got two more points than I did for the same answer,” and I’ll say, “Well, let me lower Johnny’s score, then.”
One time, back in the day, I was taking College Algebra at the junior college and I got a 96 or a 98 on the quiz, and the question involved an open inequality and I went to the teacher to show her that in fact, my dot was open and she gave me the credit. It was clear to me that she hated doing it, though I didn’t sense any resentment from her. I got a 100 on one of her quizzes and she somewhat pointedly told the class that as a result of my 100, there’d be no curving of the grades.
I took an administrative credential course from a PhD who was sort of Eddie Haskell meets Aldus Dumbledore. I told him this in a question I was asking one night. He was a smart guy, but one of these Liberals with an agenda and making his position as a professor into a bully pulpit. I did not challenge him as to any of his ideas, but I also did not allow him to openly dismiss any questions I might ask, and I wasn’t shy about asking him to clarify himself. I do not necessarily consider myself a Liberal, but I’m as good at being liberal as any Liberal.
But I digress.

At my company, one guy refused to ever be alone on an elevator with a woman for the same reason.
And I personally had a baseless harassment accusation against me in the past and I have the same ‘the door stays open’ policy.
In my case though, people know me and refuted that I did anything wrong at the time the incident supposedly happened.
I’m still at the company and the baseless accuser is long gone.
Hell... I had one ex-girlfriend try to get back at me by calling my work and making a harassment accusation just because I refused to get back together with her for casual sex.
It takes a lot of effort not to become bitter towards women after dealing with shit like that.
I had to remind myself repeatedly
of other women in my life who would never do something so low and that the few asshole-women I’ve encountered are not a proxy for the majority.

I have seen the promotions committee bend over backwards to not kick out students. All it does is dilute the value of our degree.

I’ve had a few crazy women and I’ve dealt with a couple of cheaters, but I was always lucky and never had to deal with a vindictive woman. My wife has threatened to haunt me if she dies first and I get remarried, so I guess that might count. :)

This is a Physiology class in a bachelors program. We are very circumscribed by what we can do with scores and discipline. Basically, we have to have all procedures laid out in the syllabus and on file in Academic Affairs. The honor code says I can zero any cheaters though. I like to assume the best of people, but my eyes will be wide open now.

Depends on the situation. When it comes to harassment accusations, if you’re a guy and you’re being accused of something like harassment by a woman, you have to be completely daft not to think you’re at a disadvantage in that situation and absolutely must have you’re ass covered.
There is also a subculture of feminists who argue that all women are victims and all men are perpetrators.
I myself do not identify as either a feminist or an MRA... though I’ve been accused of being one or the other at different times by different people.
I've been known to treat people like equals... sometimes to their chagrin.

Back when I was a TA, a kid who I had previously caught cheating on an assignment led a class revolt about an Auto CAD performance test, claiming it was too hard. The proof was very upset a t himself, both for letting the class get away from him, and for not kicking that smarmy little shit o ut of the class with an F when he had the chance.
The following day they all retook the test, with a WAY harder drawing problem.
