We recently had a bear running loose through the city where I live. Seems to be a normal thing here since no one was really freaking out, just ignored it and continued on with their day.

We don’t really freak out about a moose in town here either.. a bear though.. that’d raise an eyebrow

It was pretty weird hearing reports of a bear in the city and no one freaked, they just said stay away from the bear, don’t bother it, don’t try to scare it off.

When I lived in a small village someone hit a bear on the main road and the County sheriff sent out flyers saying “Bear warning, before going outside crash pots and pans, make some noise, try to scare the bears away, be cautious”

I basically never went out without my gun on me for several months because of how close my house was too woods and a water source for the bear.

We’ve got wolves not that far from the town I live in, I guess it’s the same thing.. They’re more scared of us than we’re of them.

We get Coyotes here, wolves are incredibly rare wild in the US, Coyotes are typically afraid, but will destroy everything you love if you have a garden, or chickens.

Wolves are quite rare in Norway as well.. I think we’ve got about 70 of them, and I’d say about a third of them live in my area. Coyotes though we don’t have.. are they prevalent in the US as a whole or are they more a southern thing?

Strictly speaking, it’s an elk. It’s only the Americans who call them moose, which comes from a Native American word .

I’ve never seen a moose here but I’ve seen mountain lions, bobcats, rams, buffalo, and saw my first bear a couple years ago. It was crossing a rural highway to get to a stream. It was kind of funny because it’s whole demeanor was like “don’t mind me, just getting a drink”.

Deer, though.... so many deer. It’s not a whole lot of fun to be driving at 1 AM and seeing them all over the sides of the road. Or in the road.

Also, good to see you again!

I know, but if I’d said Elk there’d been tons of ‘Muricans telling me it’ a moose :)

We’ve got plenty of deer as well, but they tend to hang out along the highways... We do have badgers in the city though.. mean little bastards.

Good to be back mate, feels good when people remember me.

They’re pretty wide spread across the country, I live in the north almost at the Canadian border and we have them here, I know they’re in the deserts out west as well as down south. They are such a problem that a gun shop near where I lived was giving out giftcards for anyone who brought Coyote carcasses to them.

Huh.. Kinda cool to hear about stuff like that. We don’t really have any problem with animals of any sort here. Well, we do have hares though.. bloody nuisance they are, running all over the road in wintertime.

Yeah, we have a few problem animals, there is one that is honestly terrifying, its called a fisher cat. Screams like a banshee, kills whatever small animals are in its way. Even will eat deer, Lynx, whatever it can take down, mostly smaller animals though. Porcupines, Rabbits, stuff like that.

And even cooler, I own a wild dog as a pet, he’s an “American Dingo” almost exactly like a Coyote, except for whatever reason they’re allowed to be pets.

Fisher Cat? The way you describe it it sounds like some kind of wolverine like creature.. Like a giant marten or mink or something.

I think they are in the same family of animals, I just remember being younger and hearing them scream in the woods behind my house, or stealing people’s cats and small dogs if they were left out alone.

There are coyotes at my parents, sometimes walking within 20ft of their house. I’m very worried about their dogs (15 and 25 lbs, bigger than a well- fed coyote will generally mess with, but small enough that a hungry coyote wouldn’t have much problem helping their self ).

Yeah, I would get worried about them in my yard too, but my 100lb dog dwarfs them and loved chasing them out of the yard, and I would always be around with a gun if one of them tried going after my dog.

They can be a giant nuisance most of the time.
