It’s now been exactly eight (8) weeks since !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Just about every week since the end of January I will get an email from the shop that reads
extending the repairs until the following week due to a delay in getting some part or another. I just called insurance to extend my rental i30 yet again. I’ve called so many times that one of the phone reps recognised me from the last time. My inbox looks like this

m I bothered? Not particularly. No part of this exercise is costing me anything out of pocket. So we’ll wait :). I’d say that between the repair cost and the amount of time for the rental they’ve paid over the insured value of the car.
It’s become a running joke among my friends that I’m never going to see it again. We’ll see what “tuesday afternoon” brings.
I do miss it though.

Ouch. Been there, was not fun. Getting the extra calls for delays due to “Supplemental damages” or whatever. 3 day repair became close to 10. AND the rental I was in got hit by someone else too.
Hope you get yours back soon

Always prefer it to be done properly instead of bodged together quickly. My poor old NC Miata got t-boned by a rogue deer and that bodyshop was the absolute worst. Half-assed fix, overspray everywhere... took them two tries to get it “right” and that still wasn’t very good. I ended up doing the last bit to make it good myself.

2 months! That sucks man, I had mine in the shop for 6 weeks before after an accident and I was going mad driving a rental car everyday.

Oh absolutely. I trust this shop’s work. They’ve done my dad’s 5 series twice and the repairs have been immaculate. It’s only taking so long because there just aren’t many new E46 parts around. Most of these cars would probably be getting scrapped now after damage this serious. And they insist on brand new parts. Everything so far has been freighted from Sydney.

I really hope I don’t stall it coming out of the shop.

My boss had this when he lived in Houston . Entertaining story actually, I will attempt to butcher it here: IIRC he was sideswiped in his 3 to 6 month old WRX. No big deal, everyone was OK, and he was not at fault . Unfortunately the tow company decided to do a 2 wheel tow on this, an AWD vehicle. This, of course, destroyed the diffs , transmission, and a bunch of other stuff that I don’t remember in addition to needed a new side of the car thanks to the accident . The insurance company decided to fix it anyway, and it took something like 10-12 weeks, partly because the car was new enough parts were hard to find, but also because of how much work there was to do. F or all of that time he had a pretty nice rental and all said it cost the insurance company well over what the cost of buying a brand new car would have been.

That’s hilarious! And s urely he didn’t watch that towing happen....
I would have tried to take the payout in his position. I’d hate to be stuck selling a car with such an extensive damage history down the track.

My wife once made the mistake of telling a local body shop she was in no rush and didn’t need a rental because she was going to borrow her dad’s truck. It took 12 weeks to get the car back.
They did excellent work though and even did more than expected.

Thankfully it is a lease so... not his problem starting this Monday haha. Too bad too, I think he would have bought it if it weren’t for the accident damage.

I wouldn’t want that car at all. Too much room for human error in all that work. I worked in the industry, it’s worse now.

It has been shockingly reliable, but I agree.

90% of what they service is near new BMWs and JLRs. I don’t think most of that demographic would even be able to get my car out of the driveway
