That reminds me, there was a thread on one of the forums where a guy was showing off his homemade regulator plugs, cut from an aluminum dowel (or maybe it was steel?). Seemed like an interesting upgrade...
But I dunno. A nother part of me thinks that maybe those little biscuits should be the weak link here.

It's a somewhat common solution, more often people just buy nuts at the hardware store that are about the correct size. But you are right, they're soft for a reason. Replacing them with metal is a good way to cause injury.
