Was up late looking all manner of info on various generations of MR2s and Miatas, then somehow drifted to this: Audi TT Quattro 3.2 MT.

Things I like:

- the profile

- the stick thingie

- the power

- the kwahtrow

- the hatch back thingie

Things that could be concerning:

1. this can’t be cheap to maintain

2. These are not terribly common in this configuration, so I could have a hell of a time finding one (HMMM just like every other damn car I seem to like! )

3. Backseat is not for human beings

Rebuttals:

1. I’m not gonna pretend like my current car has been cheap.

2. The best things are worth the effort

3. Fuck other human beings (save for Oppo and my wife, of course ). That’s gonna be the doggo row.

I’ve always liked the looks of the TTs.  Short wheelbase and all wheel drive would make commutes more fun to.

I like it a lot, although I will say from experience that after sliding your seat dozens of times to put a dog in the backseat of a hatchback, you start to wish for more doors. So it depends on how often you'd be taking the dog. But otherwise I am a fan.

I owned a 1st gen. Bought it when it was 8 years old with 60k miles. Sold it with 160k miles 7 years later.

When I look back on maintenance, it was just regular old car stuff. CV boots (sooo many CV boots), ignition coils, timing belt. The only thing that failed outside of regular wear and tear was the driver side door wiring harness.

The car only left me stranded once (dead alternator). That was near the end of my time with the car.

I would buy one again in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, ive got people now that go in the back and even with their small stature,  they wouldn’t want to be there.

This would be an easy sell to my wife. Every time she sees one, she asks me about them. I like em, too. I test drove one when they first came out, and they had a goofy market value adjustment mark up of $5k.

A good friend of mine has one just like this only with the DSG, his has been shockingly reliable. Like most other VAG products its reliability seems to be up in the air , some fair well, others fair distinctly un well.

But it’s a fun all-rounder, and definitely a driver’s car. Just don’t try to sit in the back seats.

Engine out, no. B ut many maintenance procedures start with “ remove front fascia and fenders.”

And be sure to have on hand a full compliment of torx tools handy. All the torx.

I really want to like Audi. But every time I’m about to come around, I stumble upon another Audi ownership horror story. I don’t think I could ever consider a used one, and I may never make enough to get one new.

I know opponauts are supposed to write off chronic unreliability for a car that might be fun and interesting, but fudge that. Bills gotta get paid, and not being at work because your imported Alfa 155 shat it’s insides onto your driveway is a great path to unemployment. It ain’t cute no more. I’m getting too old for this shit.

eh. I lo ok at this way: the ones that ARE reliable are never online because well, that shit is boring to read. we got 250K km out of our old audi. this new one is at 50K and still drives like new. AND its a hybrid/turbo/chock full of tech that supposedly ‘breaks down’ a lot.
