My mom will likely be getting a new (to her) car this year. She loves the 2015+ XC60/V60/Cross Country. We’d be looking at the T5 with the 2.0L turbo 4. How reliable are they? What are known problem areas? If you have experience with the 2.5L turbo 5, I’d like to hear it too.
V60 we’re sadly not buying for your time

Triggered. I hate that Volvo decided to forgo the badging actually meaning anything.
Related, my C30 has an actual T5 (2.5L Turbo) and so far (6 years, 42k ) it has been rock solid. According to my mechanic friend they have a few known weak spots (lower radiator hose, boost controller, and AC compressor needs a skid plate) but overall are good little engines.

The T5 five cylinder is basically bulletproof and sounds awesome. I wouldn’t pick it over the T5 2.0L though. The one thing to do is to look up the VIN and see if it falls within the TSB range for cars that suffer from oil consumption. They out the wrong rings on the pistons at the beginning of the run. The problem was sorted by 2015.5 I believe (my 2015.5 V60 is outside the range).
The 4 cylinder is a nice engine aside from the sound it makes. But it makes for a great highway car with great passing power. It’s also fun in sport mode which holds the shifts longer. Mileage is pretty close to advertised and I drive like a dick head.
What else would you like to know?

I did have to do the radiator hoses in my car. Simple job for the manual, not so for the auto, but certainly doable. I also had to remove a shim from the AC compressor.
My C30 is greatly missed...

We have a 2017 XC60 T5 and like it a lot. We bought it CPO last summer and it’s been solid so far. I don’t love the exhaust sound but it’s very comfortable and gets good gas mileage without feeling like you’re giving up anything in terms of power. RPM Jr. has been driving it back and forth across the state all year (i.e. over mountain passes) and I took it skiing in Idaho, and it has felt safe and capable every time. Lots of good safety tech on it too.

How do you like your V60? What do you like the most? Dislike the most? And how many miles?

I bought it with 49k and it’s at 51k now. Was a lease return. I have the “sport” edition or whatever they call it. R Design suspension, 19" wheels and sport seats. I love it. It’s comfortable, it’s nice to have the extra wagon room and I think it’s a good looking car.
The transmission took some getting used to. It’s an 8 speed and in the regular mode it wants to shift at about 1800-2000 rpms unless you get on it. Eco Plus is even lower shift points. In Sport it holds the gears much longer and feels like a different car. The flappy paddles are slow to shift but shifting with the stick in sport mode seems faster. I drove manual Volvos for the previous 5 or 6 years so it was a tough transition to an auto. I don’t really miss it at this point though.
The interior is a nice place to be. The infotainment leaves a little to be desired, but the sound system is nice. The navigation is kind of a joke though.
I wish it had better brakes. They work and work well in an emergency, I just like a firmer pedal feel. They modulate well, and the emergency braking saved me from a fender bender the other day, so that’s a pretty thin complaint. The halogen headlights kind of suck.
The thing I like the most is how comfortable it is. And it is great on the highway. And it’s comfortable. Very comfortable. I’m a big dude at 6'4 and about 250 and it fits me well.
I should point out that this is my 7th Volvo so I am biased. I really wouldn’t consider a different maker for a daily at this point.

Everyone I know who goes Volvo doesn’t go back, so they must be doing something right. What’s the rear seat like? I’m 6’1” and I need to be able to fit comfortably. Good to know about the transmission and I’m pretty sure you have the T5 Dynamic

I’ve never been back there... You would not fit behind me when I am driving, I can assure you of that.
I am not sure which trim it is, frankly. It has every option except the radar cruise and self parking. The sport trim is the suspension and sport seats and the Bor wheels (which are gorgeous).

I sat in a v60 at the auto show today - one of the best back seats at the auto show. Could sit behind myself quite comfortably and I’m 6-2 with a tall torso. Good head and leg room for me.

I kind of have my eye on a v60 to replace the GTI someday. Just have to let depreciation take its toll.

Depreciation has taken it’s toll on the 2015-18s

Ha just found this old comment of mine . Well the GTI died Saturday and you’re absolutely right, there are loads of low mileage 16s in the low $20s so we’re going to look at a couple tomorrow. I test drove a (ludicrously overpriced at $28) 15 on the way home from work tonight- consider my appetite whetted!

They’re definitely nice cars, that’s for sure! Best of luck!
