If the first few rounds of polling in the summer aren’t going Trumps way, I’d be willing to be there will be a lot of pressure on Thomas to retire. He’s never seemed like the bastion of good health and likely won’t last until 2028, should we get a democratic president in 2020. I’ve been hearing rumblings about how disappointing Kavanaugh has been so far to the right,  so the chance to get a total hard-liner like Barrett would be enticing.

One of the things I find interesting is how influential Catholics seem to be in all of this. Amy Coney Barrett is mentioned in the article I posted and is said to be Catholic; Kavanaugh is Catholic, as are Roberts, Kennedy, Thomas, Alito, and Sotomayo. So this predominately Catholic SCOTUS will decide cases about abortion and marriage and other social issues. I remember reading that when John F. Kennedy was running for POTUS, there was hand wringing about having a Catholic POTUS. In the Christian religion I subscribe to, we make a point of not disparaging other faiths, but this is concerning to me.
