I had to transport not one, but TWO 12' long 2x4 lumber units. At the same time. But wait! There’s more!

Kinja'd!!!

Actually, those ski clamps hold a 2x4 perfectly, as it turns out. This ain’t my first rodeo, as the saying goes

In the trunk were some extension cords, various tools, ski boots, and some other things. This was AFTER I cleaned out all my personal stuff like clothes, food, water, etc.

Kinja'd!!!

Yup, I probably need 30,000lbs of towing capacity and a 10k GVWR plus 90,000,000 lb-ft of torque and the ability to fit 48 full sheets of 1/2" plywood.

You know, just in case this escalates.

Make sure to get the crew cab with the bed cover.  I hear that improves manliness.

I have two small children, so of course I need the full CrewMegaMax cab or whatever is most manly.

So you’re saying you need a car you can dump all your shit into and never have to clean it out when more shit needs to go in.

Seems like a s ound organizational plan to me .

You definitely need 10,000 lb towing capacity just in case you get a jet ski or something.

A couple of weeks ago, a guy was driving home from the Home Depot near me with 12’ MDF baseboards on the top of his 4 door Wrangler. There’s a pretty bumpy expansion joint on the overpass, so he hit the brakes to slow down for the bump, and sent all of the boards flying off the front. Surprisingly, only two boards broke. I showed up in time to see the aftermath and help reload the boards. He had them poorly  tied up there with some twine.

What snow tires are you using? I’ve got WS80's on the outback and they need replacing next year, so either another set of WS80's or ....

Fun story: I was at the hardware store getting stuff in the C30. I’d parked near one of these F250 King Ranch Mega Cab 6.3L Manly Man Specials with the body colored bed cover w hen the owner comes out with his purchases: A bucket.

He put it in the back seat.

Of his truck.

To his credit he look somewhat ashamed when he saw me literally laughing out loud.

Who buys just two 2x4s? If you buy anything less than half a truck load you’re doing it wrong. /s

Dad lesson - Any project that requires anything less than half a pickup load of 2x4s doesn’t require a trip to the lumber yard, that’s what the entire shed full of scraps that will never be thrown out is for.

True story, if it’ s longer than roughly 4" my dad is almost guaranteed to toss it into a scrap “save for later” pile. Eventually it piles up enough that we gather several wheel barrows worth of scrap 2x4, they get in our way, and I have to have a mini intervention with dad and get him to burn at least some of the smaller pieces. He complains every time. These scraps come in useful fairly often, but there’s only so many you need to keep.

I wish more hatchbacked vehicles had lifting glass. The last vehicle we had with that was our ‘94 Taurus wagon. The added flexibility  really comes in handy.

Yup, I have about 30' in random lengths and another 100' or so in 12' lengths in my garage. Haven’t bought a 2x4 in a long while. They’re pretty handy to have hanging around and I never get pressure treated unless specifically needed  so I can either burn them or let my dog chew on random scraps.

I’ve done that before in my 1/2 ton crew cab. Only need 6 feet of baseboard? Put it inside where it won’t blow out and is easier to reach.

After all, I didn’t get the truck to only haul a bucket, I got it to haul big things.  But sometimes I only need to haul a bucket, and I only have one vehicle.

In fact, these two 2x4's came from under my shed where I keep the ‘scraps’ that don’t easily fit inside the shed, haha

Nah, instead I just took a different car to work because I didn’t want to clean this out when I got home at 10:00pm.

And... it’s Monday and I was away all weekend, so I still haven’t cleaned out my car.

It’s awesome, you can really fit more crap in there because of how you can load it. I use this car to bring trash and recycling to the dump and it’s so much easier to load when you can use have the door shut to retain stuff and load it to the ceiling via the glass.

I got a set of Dunlop WinterSport 4D (I think that’s what they are) from a guy who had my exact same car, bought these wheels/tires new last March, put 600 miles on them, then sold the car. Great craigslist find!

Side note: I know, every CL seller says his tires are like new, but put it this way - I loaded the tires into my car out of his spotless garage (but also full of tools), which had a beautiful E46 330i ZHP that he only uses on the track, his wife’s new(used) X3, and he put on WHITE GLOVES to help me load them into my car. I don’t even own white gloves.

Anyway I love them. They are plenty capable in the snow and they’re great on pavement, they handle well for snow tires, and the noise isn’t bad at all. I’ve had too many noisy, floppy snow tires. These are fantastic.

errr... well... I may already own this:

But I only trailer this thing twice a year typically - from storage, under 3 miles to the ramp, and back. Spring and fall. I can borrow a big beefy truck twice a year!

I’ve got an 85 Ski Nautique with 454, it lives at a Marina that puts it in the water fr me when I call.

Barefoot Nautique? Or just a 2001 with a 454?

I used to work at just such a marina, launching boats with either a tractor or a forklift.

2001, former sea world boat, my friend and I partnered on it we stripped it to a bare hull new stringers floor and interior.

It’s got some power.

Yeah, nice! I know those boats very well, and have been in many 2001's. Most had the standard 351 but I’ve also spent a lot of time in one that was totally re-done with updated materials and a 2003-ish Apex engine put in it. I think that was rated for 320hp.

The 454 is an absolute beast of a motor, for sure. My ‘03 pictured above still only makes 330hp - the same as a 454 back in the 80's if I’m not mistaken - it’s fine when empty but works hard when I’ve got the ballast all filled.
