Some news from today;
Aparently they want to demolish the building where Cafeteria trevi sits in Mexico City’s downtown area. It has been there for decades. If it looks familiar at all, it’s because it appeared in Narcos.
I didn’t understand why they wanted to destroy the building until I looked up the building permits for that plot of land. It has a mixed permit, which means that you can put businesses, housing, or offices in that plot. Even though it’s a six storey building as it sits, I bet that a slezzy developer could make a large twelve or fifteen storey building out of the plot.
The owner starte talking to the media about how he didn't want to be pushed out because of gentrification.

That’s a shame, I quite like those Streamline Moderne buildings. Always thought they were oddly charming

The Façade is OK but I’m betting the interior feels pretty old and tired... I don’t mind that they’re gonna change it.
I think its a great opportunity for Tevi. They could move into a new building in the same spot and remodel. Most reviews say its medicre at best and the historic district of Mexico City is becoming quite competitive, specially in the last four or five years. Most streets now use underground cableing and security there also increased.
Pretty tourist heavy, so I think they could do with an update. Hopefully our new chief of government doesn’t fuck everything up. Tourism was the only thing Mancera did right.
