Yes... totally the same... except for the facts that one of them:

wants to make it impossible for cancer survivors to ever get health insurance..

keeps trying to make it more difficult for minorities to vote...

constantly fear-mongers about brown people

keeps running interference for a president that *for some reason* seems to defer to the kremlin an awful lot...

is cool with the world going down the toilet so long as oil and gas companies are making obscene profits..

But yeah.. totally the same..............................

One a different topic— nice Infectious Grooves sticker.

I completely love Ron Paul’s take on Hurricane Harvey. My libertarian brother lived in Houston at the time said “Well that doesn’t mean the government shouldn’t help people out in events like this.” Which is exactly what Ron Paul and libertarian style government are  against. GG

Every “ Libertarian” that I have ever met just wants the government to provide only minimal services.

And by “ minimal” I mean “ all of the things that benefit me personally and none of this things I don’t want”.

A German ex-pat I used to ride motorcycles with in Texas several decades ago said this to part of our ride group was preaching the libertarian gospel. “You want minimum government? Try visiting Chad.”  I was libertarian back then.

My favorite litmus test for if someone is really a L ibertarian is whether they support these two things:

1) dramatic cuts to military spending

2) extreme relaxation of border controls, including abolishment of immigration limits

I’m not American, but I hate the fact that there are so many who feel the need to pigeonhole themselves into a left/right position when I think many people would like a mix of both.

For example, as a Canadian, I think that:

things like gun registries punish law abiding citizens and are ineffective and deterring illegal gun crime

College should not be free for all; when I say this, I mean everyone should have the opportunity for college but taxpayers shouldn’t have to foot the bill for anyone who isn’t taking it seriously (e.g. based on GPA or whatever)

Healthcare should be universal; this is a firm belief

There needs to be more government accountability - embezzlement of funds or deplorable financial management should carry penalties; not necessarily jail time but something like wage garnishing for X number of years plus being barred from working in any governmental capacity whether as a direct employee, consultant, etc.

Heavier environmental protection regulations and actual consequences for corporations or individuals who circumvent these; I think this is a case of absolute liability, not something that can be appealed or overturned

Not necessarily a small or large government, but something that can be run efficiently - there will always be waste, but I feel that government inefficiencies (at least from my experience in Canada) is way too high

Strong immigration controls - in an ideal world we could have open borders in all countries, but people should be willing to assimilate and contribute to society, just as I would have to if I immigrated to another country (if you infer that I’m racist from this, you’re thinking about it the wrong way and you can also go fuck yourself)

Overall, I think I lean more left than right, but my point is that shoehorning people into left/right and that you have to follow all points of these ideologies is what I find frustrating. I’m also oversimplying here as well, but those of you with strong US political knowledge could probably point out how I’m much more left/right based on what I’ve said, but as a Canuckistanian I feel that I take a more centred approach.

Besides, I’m a single guy - politicians don’t give a fuck about me. It’s really hard to give a fuck when everything is directed towards families and children. I bust my ass, pay my taxes, and I can’t get a fucking break even though I need and use government services the least.

Once again, I definitely oversimplify, but these are my feelings on all this kind of bullshit.

Democrats aren’t really big on helping cancer survivors either, just cutting huge checks to private corporations who just happen to lobby and cut smaller checks to their re-elections.

The democrats are just slightly better at hiding their contempt of brown people. See: a)  Obama’s immigration record b) how quickly dems piles on rep Oman after she pointed out the influence of AIPAC
