I might be buying this one for my next rallycross toy.

Kinja'd!!!

It has a small leak in the brake lines and a belt needs tightening, but otherwise it runs and drives and it’s SUPER clean.

My first attempt at learning to drive stick shift was in one! This was in 1998. Most of my friends’ first cars were assorted hand-me-downs from their parents, the majority of which were automatic transmissions. But one of my friends’ first car was an ’ 87 Sentra coupe very much like the one in your picture, but red .

It had vinyl seats, a rubber accordion shift boot, a carburetor, crank windows, manual locks, a nd very little in the way of equipment. It had speaker grilles in the rear deck with no speakers in them.

We wired up a cheap car stereo in it that even though it didn’t have any subwoofer, and only used the built-in amp in the head unit to power 4 speakers— we added some to the empty rear grilles!— dimmed the lights when the bass hit.

Oh, and we also added a trunk light with assorted random parts from Radio Shack. We drafted my dad to help drill a mounting hole for the switch.

Fun times!

you cannot find a more luxurious car... rolls royce and maybach can only hope to hold a candle to these land yachts

If you had choices I would go with the B13 90-94 instead. Lots of aftermarket parts. Really prices should be about the same.

My wife had one. It was gifted to her when she graduated from college. It was a decent grocery getter until the transmission started to eat itself.

A close friend had an ‘89 when I was in High School - silver with a stick! My clearest memory of it was on the way from his place to my place merging onto the highway and we reached about 60kph and suddenly could not go any faster...and plumes of smoke and clutch smell started billowing out from it. It was at that moment the clutch (which was pretty worn) had decided to let go entirely and we limped it home to his place, lol.

Pretty basic, but very reliable and pretty easy to work on!

If it’s RWD it’s very cool and I like it.

If not, burn it.

We didn’t get ‘em here

My folks had an 88' nearly like that one - red with the black rubber bumpers, steel wheels with the chrome rings and vinyl seats . It was a decent car, bigger inside than much of the competition at the time.  The 1.6 unit is a decent little motor. The stock brakes aren’t great and the stock rear suspension is poorly controlled, (but would probably significantly benefit from just a decent set of shocks.) Dad put 180k on it, only traded it in after the themostat gave out and it stranded him once. It’s a fun little car.

Do you plan to attend any of the scca ATL rallycross events? I’m very interested in participating in my beater Fit. I’m south of ATL and about an hour and a half from the event in Union Point.

You should buy our Lemons Escort.

I’ve had two different Sentras from that generation, but both ‘89s. Love em, s till have one. Great fun to chuck around and do handbrake turns with! I could even get mine sideways with no handbrake. Easy to work on too. I’d go for it.

Yep! I’ve done a couple of the events near Macon before, but I think this time I’m going to stick to the Atlanta area.

It’s for sale? That’s actually really tempting, but I would prefer something that I can drive around town relatively comfortably.

Hopefully I can make it out. I’m a little nervous about doing it. Any suggestions?

The most important advice I can think of is to travel light. You need to empty your car ( including the trunk) of everything, so don’t be like me at my first event, frantically tossing tons of random tools and bottles into a pile. Just bring what you need.

Other than that, you get four timed   runs and one paced lap at the beginning , so you have time to adjust. Just stay within your comfort level and don’t focus too much on the competition. I managed to beat a fully-prepped STI because he pushed it too hard and missed a gate entirely, which is like a 5 -second penalty if I recall.

Thanks for the advice. I'm aiming for the April 6th event. Hope to see you out there. I'll be in my black Honda Fit

It is. $1000 for the whole shooting match. Car, two good  spare engines, spare tranny and a bunch of other bits. The engine in it right now has a blown head gasket

You wouldn’t want to drive it around town!

Damn, that’s not a bad deal! I don’t have anywhere to store spare parts regardless, though. But good luck with the sale!

I had I had basically that exact car about 15 years ago for 30 bucks from a tow yard auction. It had a pile of beer cans in the back. I sold the subwoofer out of the trunk for more than I paid for the car to somebody else at the auction. I drove the piss out of it for 6 months.

Sold it to a friend who used it about 9 months. He got rear ended 2x and eventually sold it to a friend who pulled the motor for his pulsar. The shell was impounded by a different tow yard and auctioned to a scrap yard lol.

I can I can vouch for the suspension being pretty stout  - I hhad to swerve around someone who cut me off and b anged both passenger wheels on the curb. N o damage to the suspension but dented the wheels and blew both passenger tires.
