34 mile Viper and 9 Mile GNX!!!

Real Question for low mileage time capsules:
If i bought one of these back in the day with the intent of keeping crazy low miles, then selling it in 25+ years....

Would there be any advantage to going out once a week, starting it and running the engine for 3 minutes, and then idling it in 1st gear for 500 feet, then repeating for all these years? Would that be enough to help keep the seals from drying out?

Doing that might actually be worse than letting it sit. The engine needs to get up to operating temperature for a bit. Maybe if the engine ran for longer without moving?

I considered that too. So Maybe 10 minutes eng ine, then idle in 1st for 500 feet?  Like if I had it in a pole barn, drive it out and around the property, then back in.

I would think that, as long as the engine is up to temperature for 5-10 minutes, it’s better than nothing at all. Not sure how the trans would fare.

I’ve been watching that GNX - such a cool car, but it seems like most of them were stored, which I think is a waste. What kind of shape must the turbo be in?

Totally agree.  Like many have said, with that EXTREME low mileage, it’s better to keep it at 9 miles and put it on casters.  That’s where the value is now.  Now find me one with 12,000 miles, and we’re talking.  30k would even work.

Yeah, those tires have to be off the ground.

Bidding at $ 111k on that car - you can’t drive it set that price.

Even 12k is low to me - but it does depend on when the miles were added ( the more recent the better).

40-60k miles would be a sweet spot to me.

Viper’s odometer runs backwards on reverse. So you could reset it after short runs...

I generally run my 453 (right now averaging a hundred or two hundred miles a year) for about an hour or two, once a month . I then keep oil up to date and make sure tyre pressure is what it’s supposed to be. You can also run the transmission through its gears (up to second gear) so I do that as well. Car was built in mid-2015 (sold to me in late 2016 after sitting for a year) and only has 4.9k right now. 2.2k miles came from simply driving it home and most of the additional came from driving it while the 451 was dead for the few months after I got the 453.

I actually do the same with the motorcycles I don’t ride in the winter. But of course, once the salt’s gone I’ll go on to put thousands of miles on them before repeating my routine when winter comes around again.

More questions. How many of these seals are there? And how much money to replace them all?

The correct way to do it is to keep the car on a battery tender, start and run until it actually gets up to idle temperature once a month or every two months .

Needs to be run under load at least once every 6 months to keep the transmission in good shape. Out of the shop and back into the shop is enough there.
