I might be going slightly crazy because the recent weather has caused my commute to become a lot more congested and longer. Because of this, I’d love an electric motor to crawl around in traffic, instead of getting low 20's in my GTI.
In reality, I do not need a hybrid, my car gets decent mileage and the increased price most likely negates the mileage savings unless I owned it for a long time.
However, am I the only one that thinks a decently affordable Sporty Hybrid would be great? The only one is recent memory I can think of (I don’t count the CR-Z) is the Jetta Hybrid. 1.4t with 150hp/180tq + electric motor, hooked up through a 7 speed DSG.
From what I’ve read, it was one of the more fun hybrids to drive. Downside, it didn’t return as great fuel economy compared to say a Prius, Civic Hybrid, etc.
I bet I’m not the only one who would dig something like a Golf GTE or say a Civic Si-E. Basically, a slightly electrified version of the sporty version of the manufacturers regular car.
These probably wouldn’t the best MPG compared to a true hybrid with economy minded tires, suspension..ah fuck it, I just want one of these.

I hear ya, me too. I’m trying to find an affordable DD that’s sporty, cool, nice inside, gets great mileage, and isn’t too expensive. Does not exist.

Don’t know what these are going for in the used market

Infiniti also had a Q50 Hybrid. It’s fast but the DAS steer by wire is shit.

There was also an older M35H
I have read good reviews on the GTE. I think it would do well here. Seems the demand in UK was so high they had to stop taking orders

I didn’t really have the Jetta hybrid on my radar when my wife was shopping but wish I had. Not very common though. The Countryman comes in a semi-sporty hybrid trim but the mileage isn’t great and it apparently isn’t super fun.

Totally forgot about the 330e. Probably not a have bad little car. I’m curious too how they’re retaining their value.
I really wanted to like the Q50 since it’s debut, they look very nice in Sport trim, but between the terrible steering and not-really-luxurious interior, they leave me feeling very meh.

Not sure if you can get a Q50 Hybrid without the DAS but even if you do, the two screen infotainment is notoriously unreliable for 2014-15 model years.

Sounds like it’ll come down to one of these situations: sporty/decent inside, great gas mileage, affordable . Pick two.
The GTI is great at hitting most of those objectives, but seeing it report 20 mpg on my ride home makes me a little sad.

Not at all common. Could only find two within 100 miles of my area. It seems like there could be a market, but I think those who truly want better mpg are willing to sacrifice driving dynamics.

I think the new QX50 sticks with that duel screen system which makes no sense to me. Regular Nissan’s seem to have a much simpler system even if it’s not super hi-res. I guess that’s luxury lol

If your GTI is getting 20 mpg, that’s YOUR Fault! hahaha

Not wrong haha. It can easily get 30 but even with a light foot in heavy traffic you won’t see above 23.

Yeah... in my gti- I can
eek out 30-31 mpg at 80 mph...
To get only
20 mpg, takes a bit of boost
! lol

The only car I’d currently trade up for is a hybrid.

Under appreciated. Saw a beautiful white on gold wheels this past weekend.
