“Subaru is open to the idea of turbocharging the Crosstrek or bringing back the Forester XT. We’re just going to have to stop people from buying so many Subarus in order to make that happen.”
Orange you glad they’re selling so well?

I like the idea of a crosstrek, but I live at 5300ft elevation and a NA engine is already working at a ~15% power loss here. Bump that up to 10k -12k ft, and it’s a laughing matter, especially in a car that’s already considered under-powered at sea level.
Also, not like i can afford one at the moment anyhow.

They can’t make enough cars as it is. I doubt
there is little business case for them to make more expensive turbo versions
until they can get the Accent, Outback, and forester production and quality back on line.

They are definitely thinking about a new Forester XT.

Whether it happens with any expedience, or at all, remains to be seen.

Elevation is a killer. And the funny thing is more Subaru owners possibly live or would travel frequently to mountains given the lifestyle and all that. They could have put the 2.5i in it at least. They also have a 1.6 Turbo in international markets which is decent. I’d rather have a Golf Sportwagen AWD than a Crosstrek if I were in that market.

Good catch. Well they just relaunched A turbo legacy, and and Outback soon to follow with the same 2.4. Possible XT return in 2021 might not be far fetched.

Subaru is playing catch up because they failed to expand their production capacity enough in the past 5 years, now they’re paying for it with super high demand and not enough supply. Relatively good problem to have from a business perspective, but a problem nonetheless.

If you’re capacity constrained, why not add a new model that is more profitable? I don’t quite buy the argument.

I would not be surprised if the FA24 works it’s way down the lineup, barring the WRX which will probably keep a variant of the FA20. I’ll be curious if the FA24 will make it to the Forester or the STi first.
The Crosstrek would likely get either an FA20DIT , or possibly an updated version of the FB16DIT.

Pretty much... I’d take a golf sportwagen over the entire subi lineup...

Keep in mind, turbos are a way for manufacturers to game fuel economy while having
a more powerful engine.. And subi’s are always needing to chase fuel economy due to their awd systems...

I’d rather them play the downsized turbo game than the overly thin oil game.
