Kinja'd!!!

Over the months I’ve picked up some cheap BD players and some BD player remotes, and after getting the 42" monitor working perfectly today (all the buttons I needed were tucked neatly into the upper portion of the case and not visible until I had it horizontal), I hooked up a this Sony unit I had. Everything seemed to work perfectly until I went to connect to the Internet and discovered that WiFi wasn’t included - wired networking only. You’ve got to be kidding me - no WiFi? Really?

WiFi was an extra $20. I own one of each.

I guess I can reinstall the extender and plug it into that. I’ve got some LG and Samsung units, but I don’t have the remotes for those . You would think that for the $1.47 I paid for this Sony and its remote I’d get exactly what I wanted :P

That’s just a generic pic I grabbed. It’s actually a BDP-BX110 which doesn’t have WiFi built in. I just assumed that, since most living/family rooms don’t have wired networks, they would make WiFi standard on allegedly “Smart” devices that connect to your TV. I was wrong.

I guess I could wire up a network in the living room, or spend $7.20 on eBay to get the Samsung remote for a player that I know has WiFi, assuming that it works; excuse me whilst I head to the living room...

I mean you make it sound like the original owner had a gun to their head to buy one without WiFi, if it exists there was a demand for a wireed internet  BR player. Can’t say that it’s anyone’s fault but yours for not knowing it sooner tbh

I’m just screwing around - there is absolutely nothing serious about this post. C’mon - paid practically nothing for this unit and every function I’ve tried works fine, so I’m happy as a clam. TBH, this player would actually work perfectly in my media room/office as the rack that houses the A/V equipment also has my wired network (which I prefer for this kind of function).

oh yeah, you gotta remember it’s an entry level BD player from 2013. Ethernet was still fairly entrenched as a requirement for streaming content back then, and you need a feature excuse to spend more money on a ‘better’ BD player with Wifi.

Back then I never got why people bought a dedicated BD player anyway, the PS3 was stupid cheap by then.

Sony refused to replace my bluray streaming device a few days out of warranty despite my having preserved the warranty claim by reporting the defect. We’re getting a new Sony OLED, so any recommendations on a bluray wireless device so I can play my James Bond collection?

Isn’t that the one which took like a decade just to boot up?

Original reason I bought my PS3 way back in 2009 or so.  It died the yellow light of death and I found nowadays ps3 are still surprisingly expensive and since I  seldom have time for games anymore I got one of these cheap Sony BD with wired net on Amazon as my router is behind the TV.  It works ok but man THE MENUS ARE SO SLOW ITS ALMOST UNUSABLE.

life is too short for slow menus, the inbuilt one in my TV drives me nuts.
