The wife and I are sick with flu like symptoms. Hopefully the kids stay healthy. This is going to be a miserable day. Help me keep stay occupied and send me suggestions for a WRX replacement. I’ve considered everything from a Equus an SS or a Focus RS. Just needs to be fun or fast and have room for 2 carseats.

The obvious answer is another WRX. I bought mine when my kids were in middle school. One of the biggest considerations was whether or not the kids would fit in back.

The problem is I really would like to find the unicorn 2014 WRX STI hatch. The new gen just doesn’t do much for me.

If I had enough money that maintenance wasn’t a concern I would take one of these over a WRX every time.

Well that would be awesome, I could not afford one. Plus the nearest dealer is 180 miles away

I’d have to travel far to find one worth buying. And aren't they kinda unreliable.

Outside my budget but I really do love those. I nearly bought an S4 Avant about 5 years ago. Still wish I would have caved.

You may kid but I've looked at the six cylinder legacies before and we have an Ascent with that 2.4 engine and I love it.

Oh you’re sick? Well that means you’re gonna have to get an XV Crosstrek.
Or a minivan like a nice Toyota Sienna...

I’ll take one Crosstrek with a manual and the 2.4 turbo please. Subaru please listen!

What’s your budget? Instead of an Equus consider a 2015+Hyundai Genesis AWD. newer safety and tech features smooth V6 and you can get one under $25K. Reliable from what I’ve read. It’s not sporty but smooth and comfortable
https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/756573728/overview/ $19,837 36,183 miles Clean Carfax
Or why not another WRX from the 2015+ generation? The German verison of AWD+turbo+Manual would be a used A4 or a 335i sedan , if you can stretch the budget a bit including more expensive maintenance/.repair bills. .
Or a V60 of the previous gen. comes with 4/5/6 clyinder+AWD combination based on your budget.

I drove an STI before buying my 2014 WRX hatch. The STI was too harsh for daily driving with the kids on board.

Yea , sounds like it’d work well for you in all seriousness . If not another Subaru, maybe a Stinger? Pretty close to what you need, but I don’t know about pricing .

Extremely! YouTube has a lot of vids with the exhaust note, listen to it when you get a chance. They sound almost like an AMG GT.
Anyhow, this and the SS are my first choices whenever I will need a bigger car in my life.

A Chevy SS would be awesome, but I think they’re few and far between, no?
Similarly, if you can find recent Korean premium sedans like the Genesis/K9 I think it’d be comfortable and have tons of room for car seats, although if you’re looking for something more engaging to drive like the WRX you’d probably be left wanting here. The V6Ts in these are supposed to be decent but the V8 would at least get you good power/speed even if the handling leaves you wanting.
Honestly, out of pure simplicity, I think it’s hard to go wrong with an Accord Sport. It’s not outright power but you get tons of room (I’m assuming so, since I’ve only driven a recent Civic and thought it was a large car) plus a manual. Everyone apparently loves Honda manual shifters.

They still overcharge for stingers in our area, that just means I'd have to go on a road trip. Just not sure if I want a rwd or AWD version. I live in northern MN but I can always take my Tundra.

Yeah. I think an SS would be great and they are under 30k now. But it's a Chevy.

Yeah. I'd love a Volvo but I'd have to find an indie mechanic. I wish the WRX came in a hatch. Problem solved then.

Right. That bumps the price, of course, but you can still find them under $30K if you try.
