The wife and I are sick with flu like symptoms. Hopefully the kids stay healthy. This is going to be a miserable day. Help me keep stay occupied and send me suggestions for a WRX replacement. I’ve considered everything from a Equus an SS or a Focus RS. Just needs to be fun or fast and have room for 2 carseats.

2018 Volvo V60 R Design.

The obvious answer is another WRX. I bought mine when my kids were in middle school. One of the biggest considerations was whether or not the kids would fit in back.

The problem is I really would like to find the unicorn 2014 WRX STI hatch. The new gen just doesn’t do much for me.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 11:14 |

If I had enough money that maintenance wasn’t a concern I would take one of these over a WRX every time.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 11:14 |

Well that would be awesome, I could not afford one. Plus the nearest dealer is 180 miles away

I approve this message.

I’d have to travel far to find one worth buying. And aren't they kinda unreliable.

its usually the other way around for us... kid gets sick.. get extra super huggy and brings the rest of us down with her...
anyhoo
ima go with audi s4 quatro as no budget was mentioned

Outside my budget but I really do love those. I nearly bought an S4 Avant about 5 years ago. Still wish I would have caved.

You may kid but I've looked at the six cylinder legacies before and we have an Ascent with that 2.4 engine and I love it.

Oh you’re sick? Well that means you’re gonna have to get an XV Crosstrek.
Or a minivan like a nice Toyota Sienna...
![]() 02/10/2019 at 11:30 |
|
They do seem like they would be fun.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 11:33 |

I’ll take one Crosstrek with a manual and the 2.4 turbo please. Subaru please listen!
![]() 02/10/2019 at 11:34 |

What’s your budget? Instead of an Equus consider a 2015+Hyundai Genesis AWD. newer safety and tech features smooth V6 and you can get one under $25K. Reliable from what I’ve read. It’s not sporty but smooth and comfortable
https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/756573728/overview/ $19,837 36,183 miles Clean Carfax
Or why not another WRX from the 2015+ generation? The German verison of AWD+turbo+Manual would be a used A4 or a 335i sedan , if you can stretch the budget a bit including more expensive maintenance/.repair bills. .
Or a V60 of the previous gen. comes with 4/5/6 clyinder+AWD combination based on your budget.

I drove an STI before buying my 2014 WRX hatch. The STI was too harsh for daily driving with the kids on board.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 11:35 |

Yea , sounds like it’d work well for you in all seriousness . If not another Subaru, maybe a Stinger? Pretty close to what you need, but I don’t know about pricing .
![]() 02/10/2019 at 11:40 |
|
Probably true. I never considered the kids.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 11:41 |

My budget would be under 30k. Preferably something used and 20k or so.

Extremely! YouTube has a lot of vids with the exhaust note, listen to it when you get a chance. They sound almost like an AMG GT.
Anyhow, this and the SS are my first choices whenever I will need a bigger car in my life.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 11:43 |
|
A Chevy SS would be awesome, but I think they’re few and far between, no?
Similarly, if you can find recent Korean premium sedans like the Genesis/K9 I think it’d be comfortable and have tons of room for car seats, although if you’re looking for something more engaging to drive like the WRX you’d probably be left wanting here. The V6Ts in these are supposed to be decent but the V8 would at least get you good power/speed even if the handling leaves you wanting.
Honestly, out of pure simplicity, I think it’s hard to go wrong with an Accord Sport. It’s not outright power but you get tons of room (I’m assuming so, since I’ve only driven a recent Civic and thought it was a large car) plus a manual. Everyone apparently loves Honda manual shifters.

They still overcharge for stingers in our area, that just means I'd have to go on a road trip. Just not sure if I want a rwd or AWD version. I live in northern MN but I can always take my Tundra.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 11:46 |
|
Yeah. I think an SS would be great and they are under 30k now. But it's a Chevy.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 11:47 |

I’ve never driven a manual Honda. We did have a 1st Gen CR-V and I really enjoyed that.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 11:50 |
|
Lightly used they are all over for about 32k
![]() 02/10/2019 at 11:51 |
|
OK , so would any of those suggestions work?
![]() 02/10/2019 at 11:52 |
|
Yeah. I'd love a Volvo but I'd have to find an indie mechanic. I wish the WRX came in a hatch. Problem solved then.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 11:58 |
|
Not around me. There isn't much of a Volvo scene around northern MN.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 12:06 |

Does the 2015 Genesis still come with the v8
![]() 02/10/2019 at 12:07 |
|
No problem... we will start working on that 1.4L CVT hybrid Crosstrek shortly!!!
![]() 02/10/2019 at 12:17 |
|
Yes.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 12:22 |

I haven’t seen anyone suggest a 2015 CTS, so I will.
Feel better!
![]() 02/10/2019 at 12:37 |

You could do an AWD maxi Mini.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 13:35 |

Stinger GT?

Lexus isf?

The v sport comes with the twin turbo v6 right
![]() 02/10/2019 at 14:19 |

I’ve heard two many things about unreliable minis
![]() 02/10/2019 at 14:21 |
|
I need to test drive one but it is high on my list
![]() 02/10/2019 at 14:21 |
|
Hard to find but I'll have to look for one to try
![]() 02/10/2019 at 14:22 |
|
Can’t argue that. Everything after the R53 seems sketchy.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 14:28 |
|
It doesn't help that the nearest mini dealer is over 3 hours drive away
![]() 02/10/2019 at 14:37 |
|
Right. That bumps the price, of course, but you can still find them under $30K if you try.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 14:59 |

From experience there is no replacement for a WRX. Not even an Allroad
![]() 02/10/2019 at 15:11 |
|
That’s good to know. I do love it. It just had gotten boring almost. So now I hardly drive it and love it everytime I do.
![]() 02/10/2019 at 15:17 |

Do wn tube, exhaust and intake. Problem fixed. Bigger tubro if symptoms persist
![]() 02/10/2019 at 15:53 |

I have a Cobb tune and turbo back. I think it's time for a bigger turbo
![]() 02/10/2019 at 17:30 |

Gotcha. I just picked this up for $450. Certainly has room for the kiddos!
![]() 02/10/2019 at 19:19 |

I know that it is so 2018, but have you heard about the VW GTI?
![]() 02/10/2019 at 20:49 |

I need to test drive one. It seems like a really good choice and I could maybe do a used golf r as well.
