Just remember, we let these people vote. As far as I am concerned:

- child endangerment charge and instant conviction if you opted out of vaccination and your kid got sick

- removal of the child from said “parents”

- mandatory snipping of whatever needs to be snipped to prevent any future breeding

They make my blood boil. Plus, any celebrity that promotes anti vaccination on social media and TV is to be sent to a room with every infected kid, with no protection for mandatory one on one play time with saliva-soaked toys.

I have a 2.5 year old son, and we are expecting a daughter in May. They will absolutely get their vaccinations when they’re old enough (well, the boy already has them now thankfully) , but just the mere thought of my daughter (or anyone’s child) getting sick because of the ignorance of others is maddening.

If you’ve only seen one of ‘em and never seen the others, that’s a big red flag. Seriously. They know the cops will get called on them if they let anyone see their dangerously malnourished 6 year old. And not letting their kids be taken away because that would “ruin their lives” (because they care more about themselves than, you know, not killing their children ) is a high priority as a result.

Add to that that funding for DCFS everywhere has been slashed and burned because “who cares about druggies and their kids” or “AUSTERITY!! AUSTERITY WILL SAVE US!!” and shit like this ‘slips through the cracks’ on an alarming basis.

Hitting close to home, given this mess is going on just across the border from me in Vancouver – and also having an 8 month old at home. We got her vaccinated early because of this madness, but know it’s less effective at this age. Wife is very worried about it and has reduced how much she gets out and about with the little one, at least until her vaccine kicks in (supposedly takes 2 weeks to fully take effect).

It’s pretty amazing seeing the dumb excuses people make – and more so how it crosses socio-economic and political boundaries. They’re all a bunch of crazies to subject their kids to their stupidity, and also to put other people at risk.

We have a friend visiting from out of town next week with her infant and plan to spend time with them – we informed her of what’s going on so they could consider vaccinating early as a precaution too and got a “oh thanks for letting us know, we’re not worried” response. They’ll be running all over town playing tourist and of course be stuck on a plane and at the airport getting here (that story of the flight to Hawaii didn’t sit too well with us). Given their ultra-granola beliefs and other tid-bits we know about them I have a slight suspicion that they might be anti-vaxxers too (like the fact that they were non-chalant and almost proud that their kid hasn’t even been seen by a pediatrician yet at 6 months of age when we last saw them)…and they’re super excited to get to spend time with us. We love them as friends but in this specific instance…uhm yay I suppose.

Respectfully, Google herd immunity. No vaccine is 100% effective, so my kids’ safety depends on everyone else getting vaccinated too.

Here are the statistics on polio:

1 in 200 infections leads to irreversible paralysis. Among those paralysed, 5% to 10% die when their breathing muscles become immobilized.

Look up subacute sclerosing panencephalitis- it’s a late complication of measles in which the child’s brain slowly degenerates (like ALS) and then dies. There is no treatment, but it is prevented by vaccination.

Look up congenital rubella as a cause of babies born blind and deaf. There is no treatment, but it is prevented by vaccination.

Full disclosure- I’m a physician, and have worked on infectious diseases in the US and developing countries. I’ve even published research on the unexpected negative consequences of the varicella vaccine, so I’m not a shill for big pharma. E very few weeks I see someone who is blind, or deaf, or neurologically devastated from one of these preventable diseases. The “side effects” of the diseases are far worse (and more frequent) than the side effects of the vaccines. Go someplace like Africa or Nepal and you’ll see the terrible burden of these preventable diseases. And the only reason polio exists anywhere (like Pakistan) is because of uneducated resistance to vaccination; we can now add the US to the list of uneducated  places where people resist vaccines (so we’re in the crowd with Pakistan, Sudan and Somalia. Awesome.) Not getting vaccinated is like not wearing a seat belt or having air bags because of the small chance one of those devices will cause harm.

My apologies if I misunderstood your tone or intent, but there is so much disinformation out there and innocent kids are going to pay the price.
