Damn, that’s going to trigger some people. It’s very unfortunately worded.

What do you mean unfortunately worded? This is a perfect way to gain support from millennials .

Haha, I think plenty of millennials will like me believe that you shouldn’t encourage unwillingness to work as a way to gain economic security. A small percentage will likely fall under that category by gaming the system, but you don’t just come right out and say you are going to do this.

I’m amazed that this came out worded like it is, that’s a very very unfortunate thing to put in there. Why would you ever encourage “unwillingness to work” and on top of that pay people for it? Even if you are thinking about providing a guaranteed minimum income to all Americans, you never connect it with the words “for those unwilling to work”, that’s just ammo for opponents.
I personally do enjoy pointing out to opp o nen ts of socialist policies that Alaskans have a guaranteed income (in the form of a state run investment fund) and that it works quite well!

Never underestimate the left’s ability to shoot itself in the foot.
The interesting thing about the Alaska Permanent Fund is that it’s essentially collecting taxes from corporations and distributing them to residents. :) :)

There’s certainly a large gap between what the government would be giving to someone unwilling to work, and the amount of payment one would need to receive to live comfortably.
But think of it this way: Any social safety net will occasionally catch some bottom feeders.

Economic security for all who are unable or unwilling to work
This could mean a few different things...
It could mean an attempt at a universal basic income. Probably won’t amount to enough to pay for any comforts past basic food and housing.
It could be a legacy topic from FDR that is added to foster debate.
It could be just a thorn for the Republicans to focus on and achieve a “win” by removing it while the rest of the package is passed with little change.

Yeah, I’ve learned not to underestimate that.
Yup, for what is typically a red state, this is a very blue thing of them to do, when you dissect it. But it’s oil-related so therefore it isn’t.

Yeah, I got that message loud and clear during the state of the union.
I addition to that they also have a very large capacity for not even twisting the facts, but creating their own facts. It made me so mad during the SOTU. How is it legal to misstate the facts so badly that are simply lies ? Or as they like to call it: alternative facts.

Universal Basic Income I assume. I personally don’t support UBI but it’s low on my importance scale since I know it would be feasible. Also, this is only a Resolution so might as well swing for the fences.

Australians call that one of four things: the dole, the NewStart allowance, the disability pension or just plain old sit-down money.
The fact is that it’s not enough to be a living wage so there’s the need to earn in order to have a lifestyle , there’s typically a quite an effort required by the recipient to keep getting it but most importantly the cost to the economy is still less than the costs that would be borne by having a load of penniless wastrels wandering around trying to scrounge or steal their daily bread and generally just be a burden on everybody else.

According to almost every politician I’ve ever heard on the topic over the last 30 years ....such a thing is either solidly aspirational but still achievable or will be delivered in the next term of government if you vote for us.
