So, the Courier fell through. That weird German car fell through. A 65 Mustang for $500 got sold to someo ne else immediately after we asked about it. But now there’s this:

Kinja'd!!!

A ‘59 Galaxie 500 for $1250. It needs the carburetor rebuilt, but she’s including the rebuild kit. Other than that, it does start and run. Going to see about looking at it on Thursday, and if it’s not horribly rotten, we’ll have it towed home and get to work on that carb.

That looks amazing, if it’s not rotten underneath.

I bet watching that thing be pressure washed would be very satisfying.

Idle question, do you know if it’s a Mileage Maker 6, a Y-block, or an FE?

I think it’s a Y- block, but I’m not sure. She says it’s a 302, but Wikipedia says that wasn’t an option. But the Y-blocks are closest to that.

She might have meant 312, which would be nice.

I know an older lady with a ‘57 who has referred to it as a 302, and she’s a mechanic. It may be a common slip of the tongue for 312. Not that a 302 is hard to put in, because it isn’t. It bolts up.

It should be a 292 unless someone swapp ed the engine. I wouldn't be mad if someone put a 302 in it though. You'll find parts a lot easier.

How difficult are parts like trim (bright work) and interior parts to come by?

Not as difficult as I expected. It should include almost everything, though. But a quick search of eBay shows a decent selection of parts.

Would it be wrong to weld the back doors shut, remove and shorten the roof, and make it into a Galaxy Ranchero?????
