Hey Kinja...What's the deal?

I just switched over to Firefox on my phone (from chrome) in an effort to find a browser than can tone down the ads and still, you know, work. I was using bromite but I couldn’t login to some places (including Jalopnik) then I tried Brave with the same results . Firefox seems to fit the bill and even though it’ s a little slower and clunkier the privacy and ad blocking are worth it to me.

But since I switched I noticed that when on gawker properties it would occasionally prompt me to allow audio and video permissions for firefox . H uh? It only prompts when the site is requesting access to those peripherals. I noticed it almost always did it on Kinja Deals. Is Kinja spying on us? Does it listen and look at what we’re doing and saying while shopping? Why are you requesting access to my audio and video? (I denied them permanently)

Really? I didn’t know they were trying to take it that far. I can live with a few ads, but I don’t appreciate all the tracking BS.

I’m currently using an extension called “ Disconnect”, but it blocks more ads than I intended and I don’t know how to set it up to allow some of the less-intrusive ones through. Every time I report another issue to t he Kinja team, they want me to disable the extension (as well as other extensions that help make Kinja tolerable) and leave it disabled , because of course they do .

its a fine line, block too much and you can’t login or access remote fonts, or common libraries that make the page work generally.

Yup. In addition to asking me to disable extensions for troubleshooting, I also keep getting asked to clear cookies and cache. It’s annoying enough that this instantly logs me out of so many sites, but it also resets the few items that I know I need to unblock. Like Facebook and Twitter, to allow embedded posts to display. Or Polldaddy, so that I can see the NPoCP poll.
