In 2009 I transitioned from my 2001 Accord EX V6 with a dying automatic transmission, but the best automatic climate control ever, to a 2009 Civic Si. These are the two cars that taught me to dislike modern Honda and appreciate the weird, and I thank them for that.
Rare side by side shot as I traded the right for the left.
!!!CAPTION ERROR: MAY BE MULTI-LINE OR CONTAIN LINK!!!Now, in 2019... well things are a little different. I own five cars, plus a motorized bike, and have seven total living at the house. I went from never having seen an episode of Top Gear in my life to having done two actual Top Gear style adventures with more in the works.
I guess we should re-do the family photo with the new kiddo
On the downside, I have grey in my stubble now. So there is that.

An 8th gen Si put me off modern Honda for several years, but a 9th gen reopened it for me, even though I didn’t end up with one.

Interesting! I heard bad things about the 9th gen and largely attributed my high trade in value to the failure of the 9th gen. I liked my 8th, but it wasn’t terribly reliable, wasn’t very fast, and had like... no features. Drove me into the arms of Volvo.

I liked the interior of the 9th gen better, and the extra torque made it more fun. It also wasn’t a 2012, which helped a lot. The 8th gen remains the single most disappointing car I’ve driven, because seeing a lot of my peers with them made my expectations high, and it failed to deliver. Plus the paint quality thing (which, to be fair, did continue into the 9th gen a bit). I ended up getting a manual beak TSX, which had the same drivetrain as the 9th gen minus the LSD. Not as fast but more refined. Last year when the TSX was having some major services done I had a couple of TLX loaners, one of which was an SH-AWD model. The TLX has its good and bad points, but having driven both the FWD and AWD versions with the V6 (because there is for some reason a 4-cylinder model), I found the AWD system to make the car more fun to drive, compared to both itself and the TSX. It was around the same time that I had a relationship end, as well as received a substantial raise at work. I tried to fill the hole in my heart by car shopping and ended up with a SH-AWD TL, the small beak version. I like it more than any car I’ve driven aside from an S2000, though it doesn’t quite have that 90s-ness feel that my Preludes have.

Honda did those K20- powered cars a real disservice with those heavy wheels. I had an RSX Type-S with a similar engine and regretted swapping the OEM 16" to OEM 17" wheels -- the extra weight and grip made the car much less frisky and interesting to drive.

Nope. It had "everything" which did include a sunroof and nav.

T hat was kinda one of the reasons I initially steered away, couldn’t get it without the sunroof so my head was against the ceiling... It did drive really nice and thought that gen looked good as the Si too..
