After way too long hunting for just the right fit, my wife decided on something she liked enough to buy. Let’s get this band aid ripped off right now. It’s a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

I am going to give it the full write up, though. So I ask, anything Oppo wants to know about it? I’m here for the serious and the sarcasm, so let it fly.

The 1 paragraph primer is as follows : 5 seater PHEV SUV with little power, surprisingly little tech (intentionally), at a low low price. With Jalopnikesque brown leather interior, and a terrible graphics package down the side.

I haven’t taken a picture of it yet, so here is a reasonable facsimile.

She cou ld have done worse and bought a mini GM SUV, but that is only worse by degrees. This will probably turn out to be a wonderful car and be annoyingly reliable.

I personally love the Outlanders. I would love to have the wheezy four cylinder with AWD. I’m good. I’ve gotten older. My commutes are 600 miles weekly, yeah I’ll take a cushy somewhat powered car to pack the miles on.

22 is the rating, I think I can beat it.

Right now (day 2) it’s 110V charging, but i t supports L2 (240V) which we’re having added to the garage, with a free charger from a state program. It also supports CHA deMO @ 50kW.

At my old job I had a co-worker that loved hers. Her other car was a Mustang. I would say as long as it’s satisfactory to your wife then it’s the right car.

Will you have to drive it often? If we go out together my partner always makes me drive, so I’ve driven his Elantra a lot. It’s okay, I guess. Fortunately it's a Limited, so the features make up for the boring driving experience.

Does each row have its own map light? Are there any interior lights too bright for driving at night? Is there a sandwich holder?

I have a soft spot for Outlanders since I rented one for a camping trip with my ex-gf and my folks. One of the days we had to bomb it down a windy forest service road with a gravel section to pick up firewood at the local store before closing. I had to make a drive that usually takes 45 minutes in 35. The O utlander performed admirably, and we just made it.

Both cheaper, and existed. Literally been trying to find a Crosstrek PHEV to drive for a month. Subie hasn’t actually sent any to dealerships in the Northeast that I can tell.

How difficult is it to keep in EV only mode? What's the electric range like?
