With the Thanksgiving sales and an expiring gift card I bought myself an early present, a nice Dell 32 inch ultrawide, curved, 1440p, 165hz monitor.
This is a serious upgrade from my 2 HP 22" 1080 monitors. I have 3 22" monitors on my desk, I added a third recently as I needed an HDMI compatible monitor for all my IOT devices I tinker with and my main two were Display-Port .
It got here a while ago but didn’t really want to hook it up to my GTX 1060 6gb which while it would probably be OK if I turned things down. So I found a Christmas deal on a RX 5700 for $280 so that should do nicely.
It’ll go in after work today and should be amazing!
I also bought a Logitech wheel and pedals to get into Assett a Corsa and eventually Flight Sims too once I pick up some gear for that.
PS - for those that care it’s pairing up with a Ryzen 5 3600 (running on a cooler from a buddy’ s 3700x) overclocked nicely with 16 GB DDR3200 on an ASRock B450 board with 1TB NVME and a couple more large spinning disks for other misc storage.

I love this LG ad from a couple years ago:
I have a glorious old 30” Apple Cinema Display at 2560 x 1600 hooked up to my Mac mini. It works very well for Final Cut Pro - 1080p at 100% is only one corner of the screen leaving acres of room for the timeline.
These things were first sold in about 2005 and cost about $5k when new and you had to have a top of the line video card to drive it at the time.

And here I am still running an old Core i7 and Radeon HD7870 with a single 21" monitor. :(

This is the first time I’ve ever spent decent money on a monitor for myself. I’ve always used cast-off screens from work or bought the cheapest that’ll get the job done.
My wife has been changing my mind around the fact that spending money wisely on nicer things is worth it and it’s definitely been good to adjust my thinking to that from ‘do it as cheaply as possible’.

So I’ve got it in and it doesn’t work on my desk really at all - but it’s awesome!
Ignore the piles of crap everywhere, this thing is huge and looks sweet!

I remember those - the early apple displays were amazing. It does sound like they’re trying to go back to that with this latest generation of Mac Pro but we’ll see.

I’m still happy with my setup as it stands. It’s dated, but it’s still overly capable for ‘normal’ stuff and I can still play the games I enjoy....may have to upgrade it to play some I am looking forward to that are coming out (*cough* Kerbal Space Program 2, for one).
My monitor was a hand-me-down from a Great-Uncle that passed away. I do have my spare PC hooked up to the rec room TV as a Media Center PC though!

What a monster!
At the beginning of 2019 I picked up a 27" 1440p 16:9 and love it, I’m thinking you'll enjoy that beastly rig!
PS:
I ’m limping along with my i7 3770k @ 4.6ghz w / 16GB and a 780ti, until Zen3 comes out next year. I can still game at medium settings and native res on the games I’m playing.

1440 ultra wide at 165Hz? Does it happen to support freesync or gsync? My system is hilariously overkill for my 1080p 60hz monitor and I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do about it.
