Kinja'd!!!

My dad bought his first brand new car in over 20 years. He traded in his 2004 Sequoia for a 2019 Highlander. I made him test drive the Teluride before he pulled the trigger. He said he liked it a lot, but the first model year made him worry since it had so many features *eyeroll*.

He also drove the Subaru ascent, but said the small engine made him nervous to tow even though it was rated for it.

His last two cars were Toyotas, so he’s nothing if not brand loyal.

In other exciting news, I am now a married person.

Peep that Oppo sticker sneaking into my wedding pics

The last two months have been a whirlwind. We got married in November and spent two weeks in Dubai and the Maldives. It was an epic trip that surely wont be replicated for at least a decade. I won’t bore you with travel details, but I highly recommenced both locations. The Maldives are almost exactly on the opposite side of the world from Chicago so we truly felt like we had escaped the world for a bit.

Now we’re just some boring married people who do married people stuff, but such is life. We’re already looking to buy a house despite my firm aversion to purchasing real estate. Cest la vie. Also, we’re likely going to sell the Audi because she’s tired of commuting in the city with three pedals *quiet sobbing*. I’m hoping to get it sold to someone who appreciates it and not trade it in, but also I’ve never had a good experience selling a car. We’re also going to sell her Prius and get some sort of crossover blandmobile. At least we will still have the Rover.

Anyway, a n early Happy New Year to you all! I haven’t been around or posting much for a while, but will resolve to change that in the new year. What’s been going on with all you fine folks?

Not completely an old man trope.

Just ask the people who bought the 2002 Ford Explorer as well as the 2020 Explorer.

And the 2012 Tesla Model S, 2016 Tesla Model X and 2018 Model 3 had higher levels of problems than average too . And I say that even though I’m a Tesla fan.

If it’s a vehicle from companies like Ford, GM, VAG, FCA, BMW, Mercedes, Hyundai/Kia, Tesla and others, it’s a good idea to skip the first model year.

The only companies I’d feel completely okay with getting the first model year of a given design are Honda and Toyota.

Yeah, it’s best to just agree with him. Also, he kept calling it a Tell-you-rude, so it’s probably all for the best to be honest.

He told me not to get a Wrangler because his friend in high school flipped one over once. His thoughts on cars can be a little dated.

We have a 2019 Highlander and we also cross-shopped the Ascent and Telluride. Ascent was lovely and we were ready to pull the trigger on it until I started reading horror stories of engine and transmission failures very early. And, the Subaru dealer here is 45 minutes from my house.

Yeah, that spooked him a lot especially since he’s planning on towing with it. Not a lot, but will occasionally need to tow a 4,500 lb boat a few hours at a time.

So if she has a Prius and is getting a crossover blandmobile, why do you have to get rid of your Audi?

We plan to tow with ours some, as well. Getting a small pop-up style camper this spring.

We have three cars now (2008 Prius, 2007 A4, and a 1992 Range Rover). We really only need one as we live in the city and I take the train to work. The Audi and the RR are mine, and so we’re downsizing to get her something a little nicer than a 12 year old Prius.
