My LS was sold here used sometime about 27 years ago.

I thought it was time for her to come back.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Lexus has changed a lot in 30 years, but their commitment to quality and reliability has remained certain.

I have to say the new LS and and ES both look really good. Apparently the Lexus infotainment setup is hot garbage though.

Oh that 90s styling, back when everything didn’t need an aggressive face and “dynamic” detailing.

So is the front end, Lexus really fucked up the styling. Shame

I think these are legit good looking cars, even the front ends.

ES might be the Lexus sedan I like most, it works overall, but that chrome trim C-pillar DLO fail makes me twitch. LS is too busy for me with the 6 window design and that front end , luxobarges aren’t exciting, who do they think they are fooling.  However, styling is subjective, no doubt it is an extremely fine car otherwise.

The DLO fail on the ES is so small and at least flows with the styling enough that it doesn’t bug me. Same can be said of the similar DLO fail on the G20  3-Series.

The 6 windows on the LS bugged me at first but I’ve gotten used to it. Having seen a few in person, the overall proportions just have a good presence.

“commitment to quality and reliability”

I wish BMW, Merc and Audi shared this.

Funny, it also bugs me on the G2 0. I have OCD tendencies about some things, and that’s one that gets to me. It just seems like such lazy design, this time when Lexus finally gets the styling close to “right” otherwise. I’d even choose that same color you posted.  As a MB fanboy, I am thankful the brand has done a good job at avoiding DLO fail and faux dynamic designs in general, although I am sure there’s one just around the corner, given the copycat ethos of so many modern styling departments.

For the LS, I should be happy it finally doesn’t mimic the S-class, and leave it at that. Creative interior, too.

Generally I’m willing to tolerate a little bit of DLO fail as long as it’s not trying to fundamentally alter the shape of the windows to some extreme amount. The G20 and ES fall within my range of tolerance. These DLO fails are no worse than 80s Corollas that similarly don’t bug me.

Funny, I can excuse those, as I see the 84-87 car as just being trim, and similar for the 88-92 car, especially due to the body color door window frames. On the ES especially, it seems they could have avoided the issue simply by changing a couple angles. It ’s almost like they intentionally wanted the DLO fail, the chrome even accenting it as if to make it more apparent . I wonder if a drone focus group thinks the feature looks exciting, and Toyolex ran with it.

2020 Corolla has DLO fail in both the A and C pillars, ugh:

Kinja'd!!!

And then there was this, which actually make me more amused than irritated, for being so brash:

Kinja'd!!!

I have to say it again, it seems like lazy design.

I hate that Camry example you posted because it was literally tacked on to the same car that didn’t have a DLO fail as part of a refresh.

But the ES and G20 DLO fails continue the line of how my brain perceives the overall look of the windows should be for those cars. These cars look better with their DLO fails than if the trim precisely followed the shape of the back door.

Kinja'd!!!

The current-gen Corolla however, is an example of needing too big of a DLO fail to fill in the perceived natural shape of how the windows should be.

That Camry refresh might be the laziest update of the century, and it seemed to scream that Toyota has problems with design. The weird current Camry (but I like the tall greenhouse) is a timeless classic compared to some prior models, and Lexus. Makes me cringe that teams of “designers” all likely with 6 figure salaries have nice careers making this stuff.

The G20 seems a lot more tolerable in that pic, but not really excusable - copying a bland 1980s Japanese design ethos isn’t something an “ultimate” car should be guilty of, yet here we are. It would be fine without the fail, and simply a thinner trim line. I know Lexus is addicted to that little upkick in the window line ( to add “character” no doubt), but that problem could be solved by simply omitting it. I can’t think of a single MB sedan with DLO fail like that, so it is possible.

I think the Corolla would be better if they just rounded off those ends.  I am surprised the nameplate font isn’t Comic Sans.
