I want ANY Subaru but I can’t get over my fear of the reliability, even with the 2.5 that ostensibly doesn’t eat head gaskets

Too bad they are all either rusted to hell or cost about $6500. At least in my searches for one.

That was my fear of buying my 2017 forester last April. 2.5 head gaskets seems to be 2014 and earlier problem.
After adding 25000 kms on it so far so good even at 77000 kms

Me too, unfortunately the one pictured is far cleaner than the very few still around here (most have fully returned to the earth), and even those ones cost way too much.

I sold subarus for 10 yrs. Dont liste . To the 100 people who had problems. There's a reason they have the highest customer satisfaction. I love my 2018 outback 25k already not one problem many friends have them with 100k to 200k. And nothing major like gaskets people talked about and one is our subaru mechanic.

I WANT to believe you, but I know the EJ has head gasket problems (although I thought if they were done with the improved gasket they were fine afterwards) even if they were overblown, and iirc there is a class action suit for the FB engine’s oil consumption. I would be happy to hear otherwise

plus class action against the windshields. doesn't make them less reliable. I've never had a problem. Nor know anyone who's had a problem. Look at chevy ford all the problem . Even Toyota and Hond . They all have problems

I beat the absolute balls off my 2.5RS. Autocrosses, track days, rallycrosses, mountain roads, offroading (it was lowered 2-3"), ditch hooking and putting gouges in the bottom of the aluminum JDM front control arms. It was an absolute blast. I had the (apparently super rare) Prodrive WR suspension kit on it, which actually increased wheel travel but lowered the car and had some wide UHP summer tires on it. IIRC 245 Hankook Ventus RS2s? I was driving it during the peak of Subaru-hype when Ken Block was a
new name
and all over the place.
