My hard drive had some errors suddenly pop up today while watching youtube. Crack open the laptop and the battery is swelling up something fierce. So I’ve spent the past 7 hours digging out an old hard drive and getting it up and running while diagnosing what all got broken when the battery decided to swell up.

Anyone ever have to dispose of a swollen battery? I don't know who to go to for a guaranteed disposal. Google says some home depot's accept it but I don't know if they can tell or not so I could take it to most of them, I think?

If your town has an ewaste center take the battery there. Also get an SSD if you haven't already

Both drives were SSD. The SATA drive is still good, but the M.2 failed. I had a patriot scorch but now I am getting a samsung 970 EVO plus.

Has this happen to me recently. The HD was fine, I suspect it got its power from the battery where as the mobo was running off the power supply. AutoZone/advance  Auto will take the pillow of doom.

Really? They'll take hazardous e-waste? I heard many recycle sites don't take bulging batteries. What's funny is, HP swears up and down that their bulging batteries are not dangerous once removed from the device... Not sure how they can be so sure but it's also not something I will test them on.

Most places that recycle car batteries also take other battery types.

Not dangerous?! Hah. It’s just waiting to get punctured and then end up on a security camera footage YouTube channel.

And yup, my local advanced Auto took mine.

It has been handled. And I think I was able to ben d the brackets back into place for the new battery. We’ll see when it gets here.
