Does anyone here have a Roomba or other brand of robot vacuum? Mrs. Snuze and I are considering picking one up and Im looking for some reviews and info. Ozzy is a moderate shedder, so our house requires a lot more cleaning & vacuuming than before we got him (went from once every couple weeks to once or twice a week) . I don’t have any illusion that the Roomba would replace regular vacuuming, but it would be nice to go back on the old schedule and let the Roomba pick up the slack. We would mainly use it on the first floor which is probably about 1200 sq. ft. and a mix of carpet and hardwood floors. What does Oppo think?

Just ordered a 650 and we’ll see . Check reviews on which ones can handle transitions to carpet from hardwood. If it’s over a half inch of change, it will not do well im hearing, however there’s a ‘washer’ hack and other things that help. Pricier ones have GPS and home network abilities making them more efficient but costly. However if those do better with carpet transitions, it’ll be worth it probably. But search for those terms. Best Roomba for pet hair. Roomba carpet transition. Stuff like that.

We've got one of the mid-range Roombas.  We named him George.  He does a way better job than we expected, although he has a tendency to get stuck in certain places.  They're worthwhile, and they'll be good for some Doggo entertainment.  George does have to be detail striped on a semi regular basis to clean out dog hair that builds up around wheel assemblies and the like.

Bought my wife the E5 for Christmas, it’s been in almost constant use since she got it.  It’s badass.  Keeping up with the pet hair from two cats and a dog is a bear, the Roomba is handling it all with aplomb.  I figure it will cut our regular vacuuming schedule from twice a week to once a week or less...  The E5 is probably the best buy for the money, stepping up to the i7 is a ton of money...

I considered it only when I got a dog. but minutes of research revealed to me that roombas and pet poop = bad.

I have a 980, and it is great, but expensive. It is really loud though. Ideally you schedule to run daily sometime when you aren’t around (the real strength is being able to vacuum much more frequently than you would do it by hand) . Highly recommend it though. The 980 (and many newer ones) have room mapping so it does things in a relatively orderly fashion, while older/ cheaper ones without mapping do a random route which freaks people out, though it will get everything eventually, especially if you run daily. For me the bin needs to be emptied every two runs or so, which is where the super fancy models that can vacuum out their bins are handy (though I don’t like that they vacuum into a bag, I thought we were past vacuum bags these days). In any event, I do recommend it,

Full disclosure: A friend of mine has worked at iRobot for a decade and a half, so I may be biased. He does believe in the product though, he makes heavy use of them at home (he also tries competing products, but generally isn’t impressed, though he says Shark has been aggressively trying to poach  iRobot engineers, so they are clearly making an effort to stay ahead of the low-end Chinese competitors as well).

We named ours Alfred.  He's going on year two for us.  I think it was a 690?  Anyways, handles per hair, cat litter and hardwood to carpet transitions.

Here is my experience. We have a Roomba 600 series specifically for the rubber rollers instead of brushes. We have a husky and wolf hybrid that shed an undercoat at separate times of the year. Unfortunately it usually gets full before being done cleaning. BUT I highly recommend the Roomba brand. To give the Roomba some relief I bought an iLife brand robot vacuum since a friend had one and it ran much quieter. My thinking was this could at lease get some of the stuff out of the way first and the Roomba could take care of the rest. Like a double team. I’ve had more trouble with the iLife than I could have imagined. The rollers are brushes and in our house it has to be cleaned every time you empty it or it is not effective. I’ve gone through 3 batteries because after 6 months the runtime shortens to 10 minutes. It is quieter but only because it doesn’t have near the suction of the Roomba. It can pass over crumbs without picking them up. The Roomba is loud but also much more powerful to pick almost everything it runs over up within reason. My next one will be the Roomba that empties itself because other than the occasional getting stuck under the couch, remembering to empty it is the biggest burden.

I have an older one (700 series????) which my mom had no use for after moving. I quite like it, buuuut the schedule function doesn’t quite work (anymore?). Robert likes to start roaming around at random times. Midnight. 2 a.m. Other unfortunate times. So I keep his batteries low, and only charge him before deploying. 45 mins of charging still nets around 45 mins of cleaning, so not too much of a hustle. He’s great at vacuuming under beds, so I mostly let him do the bedrooms these days.

I have a Eufy 11S and its great. I think I pai d like $110 (on sale), and it is perfect for “maintenance” work. I have a dog that sheds a LOT so whenever my wife, dog, and I go out I let it run. It gets stuck on something 1/5 times, but I’m pretty happy with it.
