!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
A collection of 36 Corvettes (one for every year between ‘53 and ‘89) is going to be raffled off, after the owners figured out that keeping a car collection garaged in midtown Manhattan for 30 years was really not an optimal use of resources.
Proceeds from the raffle ticket sales are pledged to National Guard Educational Foundation, so that’s nice I guess.
The article does not say what’s up with the Beetle being there, but I really hope it’s going to be a white elephant type prize for someone who buys a raffle ticket.

F olks will certainly be pressing for proof of authenticity of the story on all ‘Vettes so we shall see.
That Beetle is pretty cool though

I do wonder if that sort of thing is why they are going to be raffled instead of going to auction. Then again it sounds like there is some well documented history going back to the VH1 contest at least.

I’ll take all the C2s at least. As for the Beetle, I just think it would be funny for someone to try to win a Corvette and get that instead (frankly if it’s an art car by a notable artist it could potentially be worth more than most of the ‘vettes) .

I was watching YT today and it seems that the artist Peter Max owned this collection (he was the second owner) and had initially planned to paint all the ‘Vettes in a signature Peter Max theme and drive them into Yankee Stadium. Outside of making a few sketches for the new paintwork, he ended up not touching the paint on any of them.
Perhaps the Beetle is a Peter Max original, so you could be right.

There’s no doubt in my mind that the VH1 collection part is real. I remember entering that contest, but instead of calling the 900 number that was publicized for entering the contest at $2 per , I entered via the alternative method of mailing in a 3x5 card, no fool I.
