To get a free rental!

Since I’m on vacation, the bosses aren’t paying for my rental car. What do you do when you need a third car and you have five days of free rental which expire at the end of the year? You SPLURGE! Well, honestly, they told me I could pick anything I wanted. I sat in several cars before selecting the Audi. It was the nicest thing on the lot that didn’t have the footprint of the Titanic.

The best part is it only has 2,700 miles and NOBODY HAS SMOKED IN IT YET!!!

Now I get to be up above it (before I’m back down in it).

Funny that a rental car even from a premium badge manages to look hella rental-spec.

My buddy is in town for the week and booked an economy car. When he landed they had none available so they gave him a free upgrade (which he was basically gambling on anyways since holiday seasons tend to leave most rental places void of inventory). The person at the counter told him he could chose any of the cars in a certain aisle except for the Camaro, but the followed up with a “well, unless you really want the Camaro then I guess you can take it”. So he ended up with a Camaro for the week.

I sat in a Camaro before picking the Audi. I also had the option of a Challenger or a Mustang. I’ve had several Challengers and have driven a Mustang. The Camaro didn’t impress me enough to select it over the Audi.

The inside definitely is not. It has ni ce leather and the panoramic sunroof. About the only time you’d want that in Louisiana is in the winter.

I’m sure it’s nice inside, but the outside is plain flat white with small wheels, fat sidewalls, and no fog lights. It’s also got plenty of chrome instead of the gloss black trim that comes on higher/sportier Audi trims.

But...looking through the inventory of the Audi dealer near me, it seems like all the current Q5s look pretty rental- spec until you go up to the SQ5. The Premium Plus trim on the regular Q5 just gets bigger wheels.

TBH now that I think about it, the dealer near me does sell a lot of S and RS cars and I always see those being pulled in and out of the lot when I’m driving past it on my way to work, so my perception of a not-a-base-model Audi is probably a little warp ed by that.

We like renting from Silvercar when we need one. All Audi all the time. If you are an Audi owner you get a nice discount.

The wheels are intentional because most rental drivers are morons and big wheels with low sidewalls means curb rash.
