One of my favorite things about older Toyotas, and newer JDM Toyotas is their individual badging for models. I think it’s a really cool idea, that I assume was deemed too complicated for the simple, and easily confused American buyer. I’m sure it’s also no coincidence that the use of them in the US happened about the same time that Lexus was launched, with the Ls400 replacing the Cressida here. Speaking of Cressida. It’s badge it’s a nice Star.
The Cressida’s stablemate Chaser has a way cooler logo tho.
Then there’s the Crown, which is obviously a Crown.
The Harrier, with was the JDM Lexus RX, u till the RX got too big, now it s hares its chassis with the Rav4. It’s got a pretty sick bird.
The Lexus SC knows as the Soarer in Japan got a fitting soaring Griffin.
The Corolla has a stylized C which is still in use today.
The MR-2 got a cool bird, which later got an M that doubles as a crown.
And of coarse you can’t forget the Celica’s dope ass Dragon. If they ever revive the Celica name, I hope they include the dragon.
Those are just the ones I could find with 10 minutes of googling. Oh and one more I’d never seen, the Levin badge.
If you know of any I didn’t post share them please.

I’m sorry but the Celica’s dope ass Dragon is pretty clearly a dope ass boat with a dragon prow.

The ‘89 Olds Tornado Trofeo that was my first car, had a model specific badge. Here it is on the decklid. It swings open to reveal the trunk key hole.

Oh it’s the Olds badge but a T for Tornado, cool. Also the trunk keyhole huddle bedhind a swinging badge truck is always dope.

I have one that I pulled off a junkyard Trofeo like 20 years ago. Someday I’ll do ... Something with it.
Apparently I'm getting old enough now to experience nostalgia, because I've been wanting one again, despite never being the guy previously that pined for my first car. I'm finally in the original target market for the car, and I want to throw my kids in the back and cruise in style behind a digital dashboard in the most comfortable car seats I have ever experienced to this day.

I feel like the AW11 MR2 here in the US had the red bird emblem. At least I feel like mine did, and it was almost entirely stock when it got to me.
The Soarer was always my favorite badge though, despite feeling like the SC300/400 (and Supra) were over- appreciated.

Great post. Wasn’t just a Toyota thing. See Nissan stages, the two unicorns forming an S.
I reckon it's
rad. Makes it feel like they care about the model, rather than just trying to plug market gaps

The red eagle badge on my 87 MR2 was my favorite touch!

I love these badges but the LS400 didn’t replace the Cressida. The LS400 came out for the 1990 model year and Toyota kept selling the Cressida through the 1992 model year. The Avalon wasn’t a direct Cressida replacement but it came out for the 1995 model year and effectively took the same place in the lineup as the next step up above the Camry.
