PSA-FCA merger went through, which is great, but apparently both are pulling out of the mini car segment, which means my
two most
favorite modern cars in my favorite segment from my favorite brand
will die (unless rebadged as something larger)...i.e. the FIAT 500 and the FIAT Panda.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
The upcoming a
ll-
new electric-only 500 will be released yet as it’s far enough along in development, but after that....no more truly small FIATs :(
RallyD
arkstrike is very sad... :(

With what little I know about the European car market this sounds like a bad idea.

That seems odd. Are they planning to do a sub-compact crossover to fill that void or something?
In any event, the way Europe is going, being electric may be a requirement for a city car, so that new 500e might actually be important rather than an afterthought like the current one.

As I understand, all of the European manufacturers are having trouble justifying that segment. Too cheap to electrify, too poor aerodynamics for ICE to meet CO2 standards.

RIP lil buddy. This is boomer of me, but I seriously consider holding on to my 500 abarth in hopes that it would some day be collectible

Not quite, they’ve just launched the new Vauxhall Corsa based on the Peugeot 208 platform and it’s going to be an electric option called the Vaux hall Corsa E.
Which is available a s 1.2 (75ps manual only), 1.2 (100ps manual or auto), 1.5 diesel (102ps manual only) and an electric (50Kw).

The Corsa (and 208) ’s a whole size class bigger, though, than the 500.
For what’s actually comparable to the 500, the Adam (for the Opel/Vauxhall line) is already axed, and the 108/C1 (for the Peugeot/Citroën line) will be axed in 2021.

What sucks to me is that I like small cars. So the way things are going, (FIAT aside), I’m never going to be able to buy a DD small car ever again at this rate...everything is compact and up and most of those are dying off to crossovers...

I hope it does, I love those little things! Hopefully I can replace my Accent with one at some point, though I imagine FIAT will be gone from North America again soon and owning a car from an orphan brand may not be a good idea, let alone one that only ever had one dealership in my entire province that was an hour away...

This is true though a good sign that Fiesta sized cars won’t be axed.
The 500, C1/Aygo /108, Adam, etc... was getting to be a small niche.
It’s not looking good for Fiat with the demise of the Fiat 500 and 500C, that leaves the awful 500X and 500L, the average Tipo and Panda and nice 124 Spider. None enough to keep Fiat afloat.

I know...that’s what saddens me. I can see the new merger axing them to save costs and just going with Cit/Peu and all the money-making FCA brands like Jeep and RAM...

I can’t see the Italians letting Fiat die though, just look at Lancia, they still exist but only in Italy and that is one car, the Ypsilon, in five specs, Monogram, Black and Noir, Blue Baby Elephant, Gold and Platinum.
Jeep and RAM make no sense this side of the pond so it’ll be purely a No rth American thing.

Lancia exists, but they are a hollow shell compared to their former self...I don’t want that for FIAT. :(
Also, as a North American, I couldn't care less about RAM and Jeep...I want my nippy Italian runabouts! :(

Other than the Tipo saloon and estate.
and 124 Spider.
The 500s either being discontinued or just down right ugly, they only have the vans after that.

I honestly would love a Tipo estate or hatch. Generic, sure, but it would be a fine daily? I don't think I've heard much bad about them?

I was driving two plus hours to get to an actual Fiat dealership for work. There was one right on two hours away, but terrible service. The 2.5 hr one however is the jam. So that was my abarth life

If you’ve heard about them, you’ve heard more than me.
I just don’t see them on the roads or hear about them in chat.
But then again, I didn’t for the Vauxhall Insignia, yet apparently they are selling rather well when talk came about of a facelift and that Buick and Holden are dropping it.

it was also going to my home town so I’d see my parents and stuff. It kind of worked out.
