Yes you read that right. Checking to see if any dealers had any in stock yet, I found a local Ford dealer here in SoCal,
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
, that has a GT500 they just got in listed for $169k. Its the one of 2 GT500's within 500 miles (the other is in Vegas with a sticker of just over $93k. You can essentially buy the Vegas GT500 for the price of the markup on this GT500. Sick.).And with no link to the window sticker so buyers can see the original MSRP, they’re trying to be slick. This is only going to get worse and either drive
buyers to buy actual super cars, or people might go and pick up the cheaper GT350, who’s prices have seemed to level off.

Ugh... it’s reasons like this why I pay so little attention to the details of new car reviews. Why do research on something I cannot afford?! Used car reviews it is!!

I got passed by a Grabber Lime GT500 last week on Michigan plates.
It sounded delicious.
Not related to any for sale, but still worth noting.

Oh yea I’ m sure in person the exhaust is enough to give you a hard on. Like I envy those who can afford to get one, but then at the same time I dont because many of them will over pay, either willingly because they want to be one of the first ones to have it, or just simply because they have the money to.

“You know this car traces its roots back to Carrol Shelby? You know he died a few years ago? These cars will be worth a ton in the future”
-actual conversation I had with a Ford dealer salesman over the last GT500 and their hilarious $40k markup

I'd laugh even harder if that same car was still on their lot.

What a snake. Or they come at you with the stupid ass nest egg investment pitch. Or just outright lies. I wouldn’t be surprised if a salesperson tried to say that Shelby himself signed each and every engine in every GT500 built.

No, no, no. What he said was, “Mr. Shelby’s ghost does a naked dance around each car as it comes off the assembly line, and cuts open his hand to smear blood on the roof as a christening to exercise any Camaro-esque demons prior to it leaving.”

Hahahahaha. Wow. That’s absolutely ridiculous. I’m glad I don’t feel compelled to pay significantly over msrp for a car.
And I get that it’s not exactly the same thing, but one could easily build a c ar that significantly outperforms the GT500 even for its standard asking price.
While the car has some unique features that you can’t get on a standard GT, it’s still a Mustang at the end of the day.
I would sooner get a GT350 or GT and dump too much money into it.

I HATE dealer markups! However I can understand someone paying 1-3000 just as a “gotta have it first” or “I want to make sure I get one” fee. But what 100% markup on a car that is from a standard brand is ridiculous. Please everyone do not pay this!

That’s my whole thing: at the end of the day it's still an upgraded Mustang & the GT350 and 350R both exist. Both those points make this an even more cp than it already is.

I mean, at least stuff like the GT3 offer unique things, but even those are beginning to feel like a waste of money when you can get a stellar engine in the base 911 (for example).
But I guess car decisions are often emotional and driven by the need to have the latest and most expensive thing.
I’m just genuinely glad those things don't really apply to me in this case.

When I looked at a supra they spent the whole time talking about how I’d be the only one of my friends with it and how it would be a great investment.
I then carefully explained to them that none of my friends know anything about cars and how my coworkers are a mix of vp’s and doctors. If I tell either of those friends that I spent 80k for a 55k Toyota, they’ll laugh at me.
They didn’t like my logic one bit. One of then got very clearly defensive.
