I always have found super rare cars that fill a normal role to be interesting. Right now, no one is buying Alfas for the premium the sedan/SUV market in America. Kia can’t move any K900s either. But those have big profit margins.
There are some really low volume small cars like the Mitsubishi G4 sedan and the Eclipse Cross (eww). Honda doesn’t sell many HRVs or Toyota CHRs either. I think the most surprising is the total lack of new Civic Coupes being sold. Most people don’t even know they still sell them. That’s also what killed the Elantra coupe.
Additionally, super rare options (or lack thereof) have produced some unusual “normal” cars as well. Jeep wranglers don’t come standard with air conditioning and the Patriot didn’t come with power locks or windows either.
What do you think?

I'm shocked whenever I see a 500x or 500L on the road. I really have no idea what about those cars would appeal to someone. I say this as someone who spent a week once using a 500L. It was not a good car.

I enjoy seeing rare hybrid versions of normal cars. So like the old Tahoe hybrid, a Rogue hybrid, or more recently a Crosstrek Hybrid. They look like normal cars, but really they're normal cars with slightly better fuel economy and a way higher initial cost.

I see enough HRVs around where I live but the CHRs are rare.
CHRs were very popular in Japan when I was there in 2017, I wonder what made it so popular over there.

How often do you see brand new Wrangler 2-door models? I feel like I see fifty unlimited four door models to every one two door.

Outside of 500 Abarths (which are rare, but exist), they’re quite unusual to see where I live, too. The 500L is the one that surprises me the most When I see one because I’m not sure anyone around here bought one... They’re all like the redheaded step children of rental fleets.

I see Civic coupes fairly often here, both in base and Si trims. The Si’s often act like they want to race.

I like seeing the hydrogen fuel cell vehicles from Honda and Toyota. Those are somewhat normal until you read the badge and realize it's something special. Being in California makes those actually exist.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 500X in the wild. I know where two 500Ls live.

I’ve only seen two CHRs on the road. They’re fugly but different in a good way, like a pastel bulldog.

I don’t think they’re bad looking. It feels like a crossover in the same sense as the Macan, they’re both just raised, taller hatchbacks.
Make the CHR a bit less tall and you’ve basically got a Toyota Veloster.

Have you ever say in one though? They ha e the single worst visibility of any car I've ever been in. The backseat's window is more like a skylight than a window.

I spotted a Chrysler Aspen Hybrid the other day, amazed that it was ever built.

I usually geek when I see a newer 2 door Wrangler nowadays. They have become unicorns in my area. I bet in the future they’ll be highly sought after.

As mentioned, 500X has to be up there. In the PNW, I see HRV all the time, and CHR aren’t too rare.
Might be too uppity to be “normal”, but even in my overly affluent suburb, I can go weeks without seeing a current model E wagon, I see more new style G-Wagen than E wagon.

That's truly impressive. I heard about a guy who had an Aspen Hybrid he loved because he'd sleep in his car periodically. He had a hybrid part failure and Chrysler doesn't make parts for them and there are so few in junkyards, the part was impossible to find.

I can see that being a growing problem for those low production electrics/hybrids in the coming years.

Single cab duallys are so uncommon but have such fantastic proportions. 100% on board with this even though there isn’t much of a market
