It’s used Toyota 8FD50U(w/1, 650h rs) . It’s the biggest one in the fleet now.
Specs:
- 2.9L inline 4 diesel 74hp/210lb-ft
- It weigh s 16,300lbs
- It can lift up to 10,100lbs. 900lbs less then what Toyota advertises since it has a side shifter on the mast.
- Tops out at 13.1mph.

Sideshift is the best. We use a Hyundai lift with our man-basket and the shift is super handy when getting into tight places.

Given both the rear steer thing and the steering ratios I’ve encountered on forklifts, there would be some tired arms after a few runs. There’d be a whole lot of steerin g wheel turning.

I’ve found there are two real measures of a forklift:
How good the controls are at allowing very fine inputs to facility both synchronized lifting and moving about of a load suspended by straps that is much too heavy for any one forklift and being conducted by two (or occasionally three) wildly dissimilar forklifts.
How robust the cooling system and brakes are for driving across a mid-sized city on surface streets in traffic on a 100 degree day in Albuquerque. This one may only apply to the occasional 40 ton forklift in my experience.

I wonder how much of the weight is added ballast and how much is simply the frame/ motor/ lift assemblage.
I’ve had to ensure that there are excavators capable of lifting culvert sections that I’ve specified, and some of them had to specifically add ballast weight to do the job.
