I hope that it works. A little wear where the cable goes in but otherwise in good shape. At $1.19/lb this could be one of my best finds yet...

yeah, this. chop the end off of a USB cable and it’s 4 (maybe 5) wires.

You do need to concern yourself with strain relief that was obviously the failure mode here.

Yup. I’ve converted old A/T keyboards to PS/2 ports using the ‘chop the cable off and solder on the new one’ method.

Sugru should do double duty, acting both as strengthening/strain relief and as protection.

This thing must draw a lot of power because it actually has two USB connectors on that cable.
