That bed don’t look long to me.

I think this particular photo has the 5'7" bed. I would 100% order the 6'4" bed. Need it to haul bikes after all.

How many bikes would you have to (steal) sell to get it?

Is 9" really the difference between the two?

My work just 2 two of them for small local deliveries. They are the old 2019 Classics. One is single cab, long box. One is crew cab, 6.4ft box. The diesels are perfect for small local delivery's.

2019. When a long bed is barely longer than the short bed of yesteryear.

apparently . Its the shortest ‘long’ bed of the big three, but the rest of the truck is nice enough that i’m willing to work around it a bit. (platform for holding the front wheels of the bike will shorten the distance a tiny bit)

Ramp and maybe a  winch to be practical?  Seems a long ways up and down.

or, Air suspension and air it out for loading :) (interesting , you CAN get this with air ride factory, and someone makes shorter level sensors to have the truck lower itself. its tempting.

Yeah my F150 has the 5.5 bed and my 2015 ram had the 6.4 which makes a big difference. I miss it dearly

6'4" is what passes for a long bed these days?

Just recently did a 500 mile trip in my cousin’s new-to-him 08 Tundra with a 6'5" bed, and it was just a bit too short to close the tailgate with bikes in the back. It was long enough that the rear tires were firmly on the bed and not resting on the tailgate though.

How low can it go? My experiences even observing others load bikes into trucks have been gongshows, seems like the less height the better, lots of room for error . I’ve always liked the idea of a LWB Ford Transit bike hauler.

Friend of mine just got a 2019 Ram 1500 limited with hemi and air suspension. It drives really nice but definitely feels heftier than my F150. Very nice interior and really comfy.

oh, I am well aware. I would buy a ute if available her,e but nope.

I think its got like a foot of travel (a few inches in either direction)

The other option is to get the truck with ‘regular’ suspension , and call up a air ride company to make me a kit that lets me totally air it out for loading.

We had a 2019 Ram on our trip to NC this year, and IF we had deflated the wheels of the 2 bikes in the bed, we COULD have closed the gate.

So, i think I will make a platform and have 2 heavy duty bike chocks that hold the front wheels a foot and a bit higher, shortening the effective length of the bike and letting me close the gate.

or maybe Bash in the tail gate on the inside to help. or both.

you had the older ram as well right? How would you compare the interiors of them? I wouldn’t say not to an older one if the interiors were close.

I see air ride kits on old cars frequently, the tech might not be too difficult.  That might be the way to go, but I don’t know the warranty implications.  Too bad about that initial cost of entry.

Interior of mine was an Express so it was low end. Would say it's better quality than my F150 XLTs interior. The new ram interior is fantastic even in the lower trims

Yeah, chocks could definitely work in your favor.

The most important thing I’ve found about loading bikes into pickup beds is that a well-placed ditch is way nicer to use than even long, expensive ramps.

IDK if you saw my replies to another post here, but I plan on getting the truck on air ride one way or another, and then using that to air it out when loading.

the factory one isnt bad, but I dont think i can go alll the way down. Aftermarket i would be able to.

what do you mean flatbed compliant?

Id admit, i did ask about just ordering a Cab on a frame and building the rest myself. but not worth it.

Same. Deep blue with silver on the bottom, or Maroon/deep red or dark green with Tan are just KILLER.

and i think the 2 tone helps break up just how MASSIVE the fucking thing is.

I’m being a bit cheeky because I know they are able to be fitted with a flat steel or alloy tray. However, that doesn’t happen here in Oz much with the RAM because FCA only bring in the high spec versions for RHD conversion and those models have the so called RAM boxes in the pickup tray...so a customer would have pay for all that then get rid of it and pay again for an actual tray...but it does happen...

actually, looking at it, that bed height is REALLY tall...like another foot or 2 on top of the regular truck.

that wouldnt work for me.

Kinja'd!!! SilentButNotReallyDeadly...killed by G/O Media > bob and john
12/11/2019 at 06:19

Kinja'd!!!0

True. To make the tray flat, you lose the lowness of the pickup body where it sits between the wheels. There are easy ways around it, each with their own compromises.

In  your case, starting with a lower chassis height in the first place would be best. Therefore, not a big boned 4x4 truck. Frankly, you'd be better off with a Transit...

2018 which is the first year of the facelift. It’s pretty nice and the 2.7L gets great gas mileage. Not sure what mileage you would get with the 5.0 though. I had a 2015 Ram 1500 with hemi before and got around 14-16 City... 19-23 hw. In the Ford I get around 18-20 mixed and 23-26 hw

infotainment s ystem is quite decent and I have no qualms about it. Ride is comfortable but the ram is better. Really good on long drives actually...I have an XLT with cloth seats and they’re very comfortable. I wish I had a longer bed than the 5.5 one but the interior is super roomy. Get a bed cover too.

There’s no pickup body delete option on the versions available here. And we only get the top two specifications.

Given the costs involved, it is more practical but less bro-cool to get a cab over truck.

In that case, base spec dual cab Ranger with a chassis extension OR cab over Hino or Isuzu on super single wheels.
