Kinja'd!!!7 Kinja'd!!! 20

So as I’ve let OPPO know over the last couple months we’re planning on making a big move to the SF Bay Area. As my wife and I have lived in this house for 10 years it means there’s a ton of shit to clean up and projects that were never gotten to kicked out. One poor soul this weekend was my 63 Willys CJ6. It ended up being a money pit and had no title but I was still sad to see it go.

Kinja'd!!!

I took off from Thanksgiving through last Friday so I got a lot done, sold a lot of shit on FB marketplace, rented a 20 yard dumpster and filled the damn thing. Fixed a ton of stuff around the house and took more runs to goodwill than I care to think about. I am sore as hell and almost glad to be back at work today.

A 73 CB750 left the property yesterday, it was complete but rough so no pics necessary. It just followed me home for free and got stuck in a shed with an ‘I’ll do something with you later’ note in my head.

Aso got rid of my enduros which was also sad, but never got to do much with them.

Kinja'd!!!

I was a bit sad to send my 79 Goldwing down the road on Thursday. That one was strange. I lost the keys for it (I’m an idiot) so I was asking $300 for it just to get it gone. Someone drove 5 hours one way to pick it up! They drove 10 hours in a day for a bike that in perfect shape is worth $1500 - some people are crazy.

Kinja'd!!!

Next to go is scout. I had it listed a month or so ago but had too many tire kickers and no real interest so I took it down. It’ll probably o back up this weekend.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s a strange and unnerving thing to get rid of things you’ve spent a decade gathering. I’m trying not to value them in how much I made or lost on them, but just sending them on to new homes for someone else to love.

On job news I got an offer from one company in San Jose. It’s an engineering firm and the salary is what I asked for but the benefits are terrible. 1.5% 401K match, mediocre health insurance that costs over $500 a month to me only two weeks vacation and a few other things plus very little money for relocation. Not to toot my horn too much but I’m a very good IT Systems Engineer and especially in the small corner of IT where I’ve specialized there are very few people like me, I think I’m going to pass on this offer.

Related I’d interviewed with one of the big FAANG companies back in early November and it went well but they’d kept pushing back the date of a decision and the recruiter has been blowing me off. Good thing about this offer is that I reached out with news I had another offer and they all of a sudden got right back gave me the information I’d been asking for a while. Final interview of candidates for the position are today, the recruiter also told me he’d push them for a fast decision and that the feedback on me had been excellent but they ‘couldn’t make an official decision until the finished the interviews’. I may be reading into it too much, but that sounds promising to me.

So thanks for reading my ramblings and giving me an awesome place to let this out as 2 people (Wife and a friend) know about this. I’ve appreciated all advice that I’ve gotten and this community is just generally awesome!

That sounds like the kind of adventure an Opponaut would engage in. Are you calling us crazy? (You might be right)

I’ ve driven a lot for not much, but 10 hours round trip for something that’s not rare or an awesome deal is nuts.

Longest trip for me is to somewhere in the middle of Nebraska for a parts 49 F3. Long yes, but for a car that’s pretty hard to find now with not much rust. 3-4 hours round trip is doable for me, this guy drove from the OK/MO state line to St Louis for an old Goldwing though...

Those are some cool toys you’re getting rid of, but it’s definitely best not to get attached to material things.  I’d ask how much for the Scout, but I got ‘bout tree-fiddy.

Yeah I've been lucky enough to have some awesome toys, but when it came down to it they're all being liquidated to pad the moving fund and support this change. Even things I thought I'd never get rid of are on the chopping block.

Well shoot, how much for the scout? I don’t have any money either, I just wandering.

Also good luck with all the moves and stuff. It’d be a real shock for me to start selling all the junk I have acquired.

And a cross country move is quite the undertaking. Are you getting rid of the Mazda too?

Shooting for $2k out of the scout, had it listed for $3k earlier and had a ton of people ping me about it and ask a ton of questions but only 3 come out and look and n one made an offer.

It’s a terrifying undertaking as I look around and say ‘I haven’t touched that in a year -send it to good will/FB Marketplace if it’s more than $60'.

The Mazda will probably go too , I love the truck but I can buy rust free ones out there so it’d be strange to bring it with me. Likel y just going to just be my Wife’s RAV4, my Sportwagen (finally got it back from the body shop! ) and my cb500x - everything else goes. I’ve sold something like 6 bikes so far and have 3 left. If you want a project bike I’ll sell you one for $100 (seriously - you’re a STL Oppo right?)

PS - hoping to get $2k on the Scout.  Fair price for both me and seller.

Yeah I’m in O’Fallon but up to my neck in projects I don’t touch. But I may know a guy interested, but he’s in the middle of moving shops and downsizing. But he does some custom bikes like cx500s into scramblers

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

But $100 is $100. I’ve probably made worse decisions. Whatcha got?

I wish I had some spare cash because I’d buy the scout. It’s awesome.

Very fair. Wish I had it.

Tell me about these $100 motorcycles you mentioned to XJDano though ...

I try not to pimp too much on Oppo here. but I’ve got two I’d get rid of for $1 00, a 80 CM400A which is a cool as hell bike, two speed auto with a torque converter bit rough around the edges but goes with probably $300 in parts (new tires, misc used parts, new EBC pads and shoes, new carb stuff). This is my third CM400a, not the prettiest bike but gets good gas mileage(high 50s) and does highway speeds (75 with my big 6' 2" 220# self on it. Has a prior salvage title as someone laid it down early in it’s life but that’s no impedance to registering it. Just a need light mid-weight bike. Low seat height and no clutch so it’s great to learn on. That’s what I kept my previous ones for, as a loaner to friends/family and for folks to get interested and take the DMV test on. Needs a bath and is rough around the edges, but a solid project. I had it running and driving but let it sat so it needs a new battery and a fuel system go through. I’m shocked this guy hasn’t sold and I have it listed at $300 right now.

Other one is a 79 GS750 in full dress, no zero history on this bike and it came without keys. Got it from the original owners son (who has just passed). It was in a shed with no keys with a 1986 plate on it and ~9k miles. Clean title and in overall solid shape but I don’t know much about it otherwise. It turned over fine when I put it in the back of my garage but when I went to sell it on Sat the kick starter didn’t want to budge. So spark plugs are out, oil in the cylinders and drained/refilled the crankcase as well with fresh oil. I’m going to let it soak another day or so and then put a wrench on the crank and see if it wants to move.

If you’re serious and since you live in Chicagoland (if I recall correctly) I’ll give you both the things for $15 0 if you want to drive down and get them.  They deserve a loving home.

Also yes the scout was cool as hell but with it being late 7 0's and having the smog pump and all other assorted stuff removed and an edelbrock carb (came with a thermoquad) it would never pass emissions in CA so it stays here.

Gosh that is tempting. You recall correctly, I live in Chicagoland. I'll try and work up the nerve to ask my wife, but don't hold them for me.

If I do decide to go for it. I’ll probably rent a uhaul trailer and come grab them over winter break.

I dreamt about them all night.
