Today I learned that if I keep driving until the distance to empty calculation goes beyond zero, my Mercedes goes nonverbal.
For the record, I put 15.8 gallons in it.

If you actually run out, does it flash “I TOLD YOU SO” repeatedly?

Yeah? Well, when I let my Golf get below half a tank, it starts misfiring like crazy for... some reason.

I think I have to conclude that your car is the stupid one.

Most Germans cars think that way.
“Haha, he will never know when I’ll throw a camshaft sensor code ”
*goes to shop, “ nothing wrong with your car, sir. That will be $500"

When you don’t have a working fuel gauge or odometer you’re really living on the edge

Nonverbal communication by a German is actually a profoundly hilarious concept in this situation. Clearly you have violated the rules.

It all works though! I pulled the pump/sender the first time it happened and the tank was half full. I even filled up and only 6 gallons went in!

I resemble that remark. I don’t even know how big the tank actually is in my Valiant. Some say as small as 13 gal, some say as large as 17 gal. I just fill it up after two hours of running no matter the mileage.
