Why are 80's bikes so cool?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

One day I’ll own a Busa and pull dank whoolies on the boulevard while rocking flip-flops a nd a tank top.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I thought I wanted a naked bike, or at least something with a more comfortable riding position. But Daytonas make me feel things that other sport bikes do not. Would I regret buying one? Would I go bankrupt? Would I end up nothing more than a red smear on the side of the road? I don’t have any answers. Just D E S I R E S

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Way out of my bike budget, but every time I’m reminded that Indian makes this bike I start drooling.

“whoolies on the boulevard while rocking flip-flops and a tank top”

You mean Gixxer, not Busa.

Nothing beats the aesthetic of dual headlight 80s sportbikes, but I bet the carbs like constant tinkering.

For 5K that thing has be wanting to get back on two wheels.  I drooled over those things when I was a kid.

There was a turbo gixxer with a claimed 260whp. I bet that would be fun for .3 seconds.

I could use some practice with carbs. Seems like a useful skill

My old joke is a turbo Busa is a good starter bike. I like those things too, I used to work with someone who had one as a long distance commuter, put a ton of miles on it, apparently they can be comfortable.

I don’t plan to deal with carbs on a bike or car again.

Have you ever brought it into your home (not garage) and just... Admired it?

Reliable enough to be the main mode of transportation? (backed up by Uber for the downpours )

Would a Daytona be in the same general “sanity level” as an xsr900 and other competitive nakeds for a somewhat new but level-headed rider?

Good for commuting short distances? (sub 10km)

Riding two up?

How would you compare it to an MT09?

The GSXR is the OG street super bike. Insanely fast for it’s time.

1: yea,. I’ve gone out on rides and then just..stopped and starred.

2: it CAN be. but it can be a lemon.
T he first motor in my Blue one was a lemon. oil leaks everywhere, rattles, and then it dropped a valve. 2nd motor has been FAR better.

3: lol sanity. IMO, a new new rider should not be on anything with more than 100HP for the first year. its just too easy to go fast. the SS bikes even more so. There is no traction control on a daytona. its a steady right wrist. its not the torquiest motor. But it still cranks 125HP out. and it just builds and builds and build power. (and this is true for all ss) you think, oh, i’ll just let go of the throttle. But you cant, because if you let go, you fly off the back, and then you are REALLY fucked.

4: I commute with mine 40KM one way each day. I dont mind it. 100% invest in a non stock seat (OEM ge l or a sergeant , OEM seat is BRUTAL)

5: its a SS. the 2 up is there when you must / the girl ask s you to . Passenegr makes it SO wheelie prone. Limit it as much as possible.

6: I rode an early FZ-09 and HATED it. Shitty suspension. worse fueling (on-off throttle was so bad they actually recalled it) the suspension made even the stock stuff on an SV look good. The ONLY good thing about that bike was the motor. The trans sucked too. suffered from ‘yama -clunk”

now, a later MT-09...the added ABS, TCS, revamped the suspension. Apparently its a far better bike. I havent had a chance to ride one for any appreciable amount of time.

comparing that category (big jap naked) to the daytona...

I sold my Z1000 which was a VERy pretty, reliable, and reasonably quick bike for my daytona. I miss the big Z time to time. But I dont regret the move in the absolute slightest .

How about a B-King? Hayabusa motor in a naked bike.

With one of the worst looking factory exhausts ever.

Have you ridden a Daytona? You might feel a bit cramped. Stellar bike though. Only faired sport bike I find attractive outside of a panigale. So. Damn. Good. To ride too.

I’m with you there. If and/or when the boat ever gets replaced, it will be with something fuel injected. It turns out 1995 was the last year Mercruiser sold a carbureted big-block. By that point GM no longer made blocks with the mount for a mechanical fuel pump, so they came up with this stupid belt driven/eccentric cam setup to remotely run a mechanical pump. It is... the long way around. There there’s the whole carburetor thing. We only missed it by one year .

My first car and bike both were cabureted, and both had plenty of quirks and features related to fuel delivery.  Both were quite cold blooded and liked fettling.   I lack the patience for such shenanigans anymore.    Fortunately, there’s nothing on my radar that should have me going in that direction, even the fintail has FI.

There’s a certain cleanliness to 80's bike design.

I’ve only ridden the street triple from them. Unfortunately Seattle T riumph is such a pain to reach, and the area is just stop and go traffic on confusing roads for miles around. Not my ideal test ride spot :/

Still loving the Honda?

Daytona is not an ideal traffic bike.

Yup! Commuting on it pretty much every day now that it's getting cold and wet. The windshield and heated grips are glorious.
