Headers have reddish dirt on them, not as rusty as they look. They will be wrapped before going into the car.
After another eternity raking leaves, I was able to hang the headers on the new engine this afternoon to check spark
plug clearance. I am happy to report that it is better than it was on the old (stock) heads and only required a small amount of bash-it-with-a-hammer to get adequate clearance for the quite-fat MSD boots on regular-length plugs
.

The blue tape now makes me wonder what those covers would look like if they were also blue..

Would this fit in the Stringbean? Sideways, and not blow up my 41TE.

Probably not, and definitely not.

Probably silly in my opinion, but it would be colorful for sure.

Guy at the shop that did the machine work and helped spec parts says “easy 500 plus” which is more than I was going for, but I can’t complain (until I break the ev
erything else in the drivetrain). Looking at kinda-sorta similar builds’ dyno results it should be north of 500hp but I don’t think it will be too far past it.

I don’t know the intention for the engine but if for racing header wrap at the top end is a sure fire way to burn out steel headers. The wrap just insulates the red glowing stuff which is not good. Better is steel heat reflectors wound the headers.

99% street, will inevitably make a few passes at the drag strip once the rest of the driveline can actually handle it. Overall these headers are cheap in the first place, so if they need replaced in a couple years I’ll take advantage of that to get better stainless ones and do a nicer job with the exhaust as a whole.

Sounds like a plan. I almost hated to mention it as unless you were road racing, its’ hard to get them hot enough to cause grie f!
