Yesterday we spent about 2 hours cleaning her car thoroughly in order to prep it for sale soon. Of course this was an opportunity to take some nice photos after the wash, clay, and wax. The car has 104,000 miles which is pretty low for a 2005 commuter car. So we are hoping that we are able to muster about $4k from Craigslist out of it. It has a few dents but is mechanically perfect and the paint is otherwise in great shape thanks to parking it indoors in Socal all of its ownership.
Here are some more photos, not sure what’s going in the ad yet:
The only real issue currently are the mismatching side mirrors. I ordered another black one from rock auto but I got the wrong one. So I have to send it back for replacement. The car originally came optioned with body colored mirrors but I don’t think people shopping for a 14 year old Honda care much about the option spec list. Mismatching parts would throw red flags to me though so I’m in debate about waiting to list. Might just list it anyways though and blame that as the reason for a delayed sale.
That mirror is trashed anyways which is why replacing it is an easy and cheap way to improve the car’s looks. The other dents aren’t too bad although it certainly detracts from the car being perfect.
That driver door ding is quite the ding. Unlicensed driver had hit the car a few years back and insurance paid a nice sum for uninsured driver but we never got around to fixing it, just pocketing the money instead. Might try some PDR on that door but again, how much will buyers care?
The mechanicals are all that really matter in a commuter which is how I’d like to market it. Why buy a new car when it’s just going to get beat up in LA traffic? This car has modern enough safety features, AC works well, and it easily gets 30mpg in heavy LA traffic. It's also got fun things like a sunroof since it's an EX model so hopefully that will be easier to get our target price. I'm thinking of listing at $4800 and hoping the low ballers feel like they scored a deal at $4k.

Good luck with the sale. I had a Civic EX of that generation and it was a great all around car. It's still kicking as it approaches 200,000 miles, but it's my brother's car now.

Yeah she has just gotten unlucky a lot of times. Although with driving in Hollywood where she works, the odds of being hit are always rather high. 3 different accidents in the last 5 years even though she has only driven 30,000 miles in total. All superficial dents/scrapes but yeah could be quite perfect otherwise. Good lighting and having just spent hours cleaning it help though for sure!

Nice! My roommate picked up an almost identical black
one for about $3.3 over the summer at 123K miles in basically the same condition; she was shopping in Phoenix, though, so I’d say ~$4 is reasonable for SoCal prices. They’re great little cars, we just replaced the window regulator about a month ago and it’s like playing with Lego—everything is just so intuitive and easy to assemble. Also, is that the OEM factory head unit? I’ve yet to come across one in these parts that still has that!

Yup, everything on the car is factory. Girlfriend does not have any interest in car modifications so it's stayed completely stock from day one. And I made sure when shopping for it in the first place to not find a riced out one anyways. Not that a stereo is rice but it's nice to find everything original and clean and in working order. 5 years ago at 78,000 miles it was a pretty good buy at $6500 and has been dependable. She was originally cross shopping mini coopers in the same price range or a little more just because she liked how small they are. And obviously I would have enjoyed driving one of those haha. But maintenance would have been a nightmare in comparison whereas oil changes, tires, and brakes are all this ever needed.

Sell it as is. If the buyer is not put off by the dented door, the mirror is nothing to them. It’s just an automotive appliance that converts time and gasoline to distance. And for ~$4k and Honda reliability, you can’t get one cheaper.
My bet is someone will buy it as a commuter car or else as a kid’s car. Either way, the condition of the body is not a worry.

Thats my hope! Its just a red flag to me as a buyer to see mismatching panels/parts . I had to replace the drivers side one though because it had a piece of plywood sticking out of it and the mounts were broken in half. Was supposed to be a simple replacement on th e passenger side but the new part was wrong. Still going to replace it if the new part shows up before someone buys it. But yeah in general im not going to put more work/money into it. A simple reliable commuter is what im trying to sell and so it shouldnt be too hard. Got at least a month to sell before it gets annoying renewing insurance and finding a place to keep it since it wont get driven.

Yep, size up the buyer and don’t worry about the condition too much. Take a look at the comparables and I bet you do not find many 100k mile hondas for that price in your neighborhood.
