Apparently, as my car is a Canadian-market car, Hyundai’s weather setup according to the VIN is...
‘THE FRIGID ZONE’.
This seems appropriate.

Help, I’m steppin’ into the Frigid Zone
Place is a madhouse, feels like being frozen...

my Ranger was originally sold in Canada (Quebec, apparently) so when I look up its warranty history about half of it is in French.

The most interesting thing was that my Camaro was a California build not an Ohio one. It’s not that shocking since I’m in the western US, but just a little factoid. It was also originally 307 powered and painted gold as opposed to the 350/red that it was when I bought it.

Someone on Oppo was looking up GM VINs a while ago. The one for my equinox said.
NO CRUISE CONTROL
I knew this but damn. It was I think the only thing in all caps as well.

Only that German is a very angry and confusing language. Why does the term for a front license plate bracket (option 992) have 32 characters???

Take your star.

Wow, some of those are so long that I have literally no idea what they would even see whatsoever, lol...

No better than mine! ‘THE FRIGID ZONE’ was in caps as well, haha!

I found it.

Yup...that sounds about right!

I had found it. 5 years ago and some memory loss. lol it’s all in caps lock. But asterisks was the difference.

That is so fucking German I love it.

Steuerung means management, not sure why that term is there in either language.
Kennzeichen means license plate.
Befestigung means attachment.
22 characters each .
Remove the spaces between the words to make 1 word terms for things et voila.

German LOOOOOVES compound words.
I’m pretty sure that inventing new compound words is their national pastime.
That and being punctual and efficient.

Well, sure except the one in it had a very distinct rod knock and was a gutless smog motor out of a late 70s truck anyway. But the car was originally bought as a parts car so I didn't mind.

According to a VIN decoder my 128i is an automatic. The 3 pedals and lever doohickeyin the middle say otherwise. I may need to check if I have one of the characters of my VIN wrong somewhere.
Alternatively, if someone manual swapped my car somewhere along the line they did a good job because the finicky electronics of modern BMWs are not complaining. /knock on wood

Could be just the decoder you used? I find there are some that are a LOT better than others...

....yeah.....that might put a damper on things...

Hey, kudos for finding it though! It’s not exactly easy to search for things on Oppo...

My fintail has an odd code - engine run-in and first oil change to be performed at factory. I can’t imagine that one has been offered in a long time.

Try bimmer.work to decode

According to Toyota my dad’s 05 Rav 4 is a Northern Climate variant but also a California emissions equipped vehicle. The northern climate comes into play because he insists on using OEM replacement rubber inserts for the wipers and apparently they are different. All the more odd when you consider the truck was sold new in Texas.

Yeah, haven’t heard that idea in a LONG time!

Speaking of VINs, I didn’t wanna make a separate post about this, but this is funny.

The fact that the VIN is asterixed out in the heading but clearly visible in the photo?

Yes sir. There needs to be a big Q&A about IAAI.com. There’s a lot that’s... bizarre.
