My go to is still an iPod classic. That said there are still good Android based devices from the likes of Sony and others which get you support for modern lossless formats.

I’ve been meaning to buy another from eBay and refurb it. The only thing newer players do better than the classic is support for lossless formats.

I miss weird gadgets. Now everything is an app. Hopefully we’ll still get some weirdo VR/AR stuff during the next decade at least.
