Air flows cleanly over the roof, through the rear wing, over the rear window and on to the rear flip. This unique approach and design detail allows the rear screen to self-clear on the move. Watch it be removed in the next generation, and years from now crossover enthusiasts will yearn for the day of classic crossover designs and they’ll take a page from Porsche’s book and release the DBX Sport Classic with the ducktail which will immediately be unavailable because Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno bought half of them and the other half went to some oil prince’s garage.

The real answer, according to the preview I saw, is that the ducktail, combined with the overhang on the roof spoiler, is supposed to redirect air and rain so that a rear wiper is not necessary.

I didn’t invent the term “duckbill spoiler.” I agree the term should uniformly be “ducktail,” but, well, it isn’t.

I agree that the original and more accurate term was and should be “ducktail. ” However, t o over- explain the extremely obvious , the term “duckbill, ” which is also in common usage whether you or I like it or not, works better for the joke because the joke is about a face. Now get a fucking life.

not necessarily. there would still be an area of turbulant low pressure air behind the suv . B y having the ducktail it may preven t that bubble from moving up to where the window is. Thus the window F, would always have air flowing over
window

To piggyback on this, I think with the angle of the rear glass, keeping the airflow attached wasn’t a big problem, but then what to do with it afterward? I think the ducktail (woo-ooo) helps cleanly kick the flow off the rear and prevents a turbulent pocket from forming in the space between the bottom of the rear glass and the top of the bumper.
I imagine this helps prevent lift as well.
