My new video camera finally got here so I can get back into Youtubing aaannnnd it requires active microphones unlike 90% of cameras out there . Time to throw even more god damned money so I can have a competent video rig. Fuck’s sake.

yuuup. I somehow bought one of like five freakin camera lines that don’t have active mic ports. Go figure. Tons of features for the price but not the ability to use any random mic, which is the main reason I bought the damn thing.

3.5mm minijack, so forget getting an in-line pre-amp. The unit itself is a Vixia HF R700. Google would have revealed the mic snafu had I even thought to search for it in the first place, but once I verified it had an external 3.5mm mic input I thought that was all I’d need for my Rode VideoMicro.

By the time I’m done dicking with ebay returns and paying more for a camera with a powered mic output I might as well just buy a damn mic. It gets here tomorrow.

I hadn’t even heard of 3.5 mm supplying power.  Interesting.  I’ve got an old XLR box somewhere if that would help.  adapts 2 xlr to 3.5 mm with phantom power. I think it also has a 3.5 mm input...i would have to see if I can find it.
