Yeah, that’s probably the right answer. There was a really nice Porsche for sale at our local Mazda dealer a while back, and it was the owner’s friend’s, being sold on consignment.

They sell lots of lemon buyback Hyundai’s and random nice c ars (probably auction). Channel 2 Action News did a story about their Hyundai buyback program a few years back.

The 981 is really nice.

It will be interesting to see if the GT4 will continue to drop or if it will plateau and go back up like the 996 GT3.

Porsches are weird about pricing. I would like to see all of the GT cars decrease in value. Seems weird to me that someone would pay so much for a 996 for example.

Around 2001 I worked briefly for a Hyundai/Dodge dealer. We had a person who traded in a fully dressed Harley for an Accent, and they still got the guy to finance about 5k. I felt bad for the guy to go from a Harley to an Accent.

This, I don’t know. Owner’s car is probably a solid bet as was mentioned above.

Maybe a Genesis G90 or a Palisade?

Seems like 996 GT3 prices may be softening some with the manual back in the new GT3.

Even if I could actually afford a used GT4, with how rough some of the roads are around here (and the fact that I’ve got a short gravel drive to my house), it would just make a lot more sense to get an S. I want a car I can easily drive to work a couple times a week, but is also at home on the back roads or the track.

Thinking a decade or two in the future, it would be awesome if they built so many 991.2 GT3s with the manual that those would actually come into my range...

Not that serious yet , this was 2015 me thinking anyways. I also don’t think if we were that serious I don’t think me only have one car would be a stipulation. They’re both paid for and I’m not living under a pile of debt, so I don’t think she really cares one way or another.

Not quite on this level but I did test drive an absolutely minty 2015 335i (w/ manual!) with something like 7k miles on the clock at a Mazda dealership. Apparently the owner lived in DC and basically never drove it, and got tired of making payments on a $50k car that he wasn’t using, but still wanted a car, so he came in and traded it for a Mazda 3.

Look at the rest of their used inventory. There’s a plethora of BMWs / Porches / MBs that are listed for double the cost of the most expensive Hyundai.

None of these are trades, the dealer has to be picking them up at auction. It’s probably a high income area. They’re basically trying to be a “luxury” brand dealership, but can’t get a franchise from a premium brand. You get all of the cost of the more expensive car and all of the negative buying experience of a crappy dealership. Best bet is to avoid. I’d gladly pay $5k more for the same car at a real Porch dealer.

I think it may be more general than that - someone got the money to buy a cool car, and then realized how impractical it was in DC. Traffic is horrible and no fun driving roads unless you go an hour outside of the city. And it did have a bumper repair, so I’m guessing it was street parked and someone played tag with it at some point. So what would you rather barely drive and see mostly sit by the curb and get beat up? A $50k BMW or a $25k Mazda?

Most everyone I know who lives or commutes downtown drives some econo shitbox beater.
