I have an ‘09 Impreza 2.5i, and the ABS and traction lights are randomly coming on and disabling the cruise control. sometimes it happens as soon as the car starts, other times halway through my communte, sometimes not at all.
I’ve had this in the past when the oil got low, but I verified that is not the case this time. my bluetooth code reader shows no codes, and the CEL is not on.

sounds like a wire or harness fault

How in the hell does low oil cause the ABS and traction lights to come on??

Could it be a wire or something to one of the sensors? That's what killed the ABS and traction control in my truck.

My gut says wheel speed sensor. Other posibility could be brake fluid level/brake fluid level sensor.
Really it could be anything. Subarus love to disable TC/Stability/ABS at the slightest hint of a CEL causing problem.

It’s a Subaru, when the CEL comes on it kills TC, stability, ABS, and cruise.

Well I guess thats one way to motivate someone to actually fix a CEL instead of ignoring it forever until its time to pass emissions.

You do the brake light switch recall?

I had a 2010 Foz XT that would do this, randomly, usually while cruising on the highway. Resetting the ECU cleared it and usually cleared it for like a year.
Best as I could chalk it up is just some electrical fault, which I’ve always had with the four Subies I owned (some had the HU freeze, some had random buttons stop working, sometimes random fuses would blow). It’s just a Subaru thing . Electrical weirdness is usually from a bad ground, but I never cared enough to try to figure it out, since it so rarely happened.

Like TurbochargedSquirrel said, its just to get your attention without telli ng you anything actually useful.
I did find out that I have a rear brake light out, for all I know they are tied together. Subaru, the Japanese Alfa Romeo.
